Jim, thought about that, but don't know Laura and didn't want to bother her. Maybe I will send her a message

Laura is wonderful and can be a big help. She really knows the area. Check out her non-profit http://www.esc4p.org

    Good thought, Jim.

Last time through I stayed at the Best Western; adequate, comfortable, and no stairs.

OK, made our reservations, ended up at the Historic Dow Hotel. Opted for the hotelier the motel because it's a little cheaper because of the smaller rooms and lack of a microwave and fridge. This is definitely a budget trip as I'm temporarily out off work coupled with the fact we've spent way to much money on cool LF gear. Looking forward to spending a few day shooting in the Eastern Sierra!!!

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

There's a pretty decent Best Western there, I've stayed at it many times.

For the record, Bishop and Lone Pine are 55 miles apart and there are a LOT of rooms in Lone Pine. Don't miss Keeler, either on the way, or return, it's worth a stop.

Well we made it, good thing I didn't look at a map, had forgotten how far south Lone Pine is. Had a nice drive though, New Year's Day is a good time to travel. Stop at Mono lake on the way and Leigh made some exposures with her 5x7, the lake was dead calm with nice reflections and light.

Keeler? Missed that on the way down, maybe on the way back. Jim, thanks for the tip.

Also took Jim Fitzgerald's recommending and contacted Laura and we're meeting for coffee. So far things are shaping up for a nice trip.

I love Lone Pine, it brings back fond memories of me taking a Greyhound bus there at age 16 to hike up Mt. Whitney, my first 14,000 foot peak......have done 80+ to date...
