My girlfriend and I are think of short trip to the Eastern Sierra and were considering staying in Lone Pine. Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good motel. We are definitely on a budget but want to stay someplace decent.

There's Motel 6 in Bishop. Your choices are pretty limited. There are a couple other motels though, IIRC so look at hotels.com or some such.
Both the Dow Hotel and the Comfort Inn in Lone Pine are clean and comfortable. I have also spent many nights at the Bishop Vagabond Inn, which I have found to be located in an ideal location for photographic explorations.

Be sure and make advance reservations. Lone Pine is lovely but not many hotels.

I've never made an advance res in lone pine...there are rooms but you might have to get there early

About 15 years ago I made the mistake of assuming getting a room would be easy and there was some film festival in town celebrating the making of Bad Day at Black Rock I think. Ended up at least 50 miles away. Great place to photograph though.
While on a memorable workshop/road trip with Alan Ross several years back, the group stayed at the Dow Villa. It loked pretty nice.
I camped in the Alabama Hills which was interesting, too.
Thanks everyone, this gives us a better idea. I did look at the Lone pine Chamber of commerce website, but it is still nice to here from folks who have been there.

Roger, send a message to Laura Campbell. She lives in Lone Pine and may be able to suggest a place.
Have you used tripadvisor.com to find out what's there?
