Ansel Adams "moon and half dome" Another question.

This photo is signed on the lower right hand side in pencil(AA).On the back of the frame is a shops name--village frame &art shop NY,NY numbered #9011 is this an early print? Is there any one in the greater Boston area anyone could recomend? Should it be appraised and insured? Your answers so far have helped enormously,and I thank you in advance.

If the photo is an original, then yes it should be appraised and insured. Robert Klein can help you make that determination. If it's in good condition, you might even want to sell it. There are a number of dealers who specialize in Adams and others of the era. To find them, contact the AIPAD:

The initialed ones were generally printed by Alan Ross or Ted Orland (or maybe Sexton - one of his later assistants) under his supervision and sold at reduced rates. Personally, I've always thought they were just as good as a full blown Adams. A friend of mine owns an initialed 'Moon over HalfDome' as well as an original 'Clearing Winter Storm', which, in addition to the full Ansel Adams signature comes complete with both blocked shadows (the trees) and blown highlights (the clouds and the waterfall).
