Stand Development: Images, tips and advices...

at least that's what I would like to see..

I have read some about this development technique, but I have just tried two developments for the first time..
I know some (many?) in here does this all the time (Chris Broadbent comes to mind), so what about a thread dedicated to this - as inspiration/help and so on..

Fx I read that HC110 was not suitable for this, so that was what I tried:

Used HC110 (one Liter used 15 times before this)

The first one was developed for one hour - I found it a little too contrasty so the next was 90min...

13x18 film - Boyer lens - Gandolfi camera and of course: Alberte....

Although not as contrasty, for some reason the second image doesn't have the pull of the first, I can't quite put my finger on why!

One for you Ed Bray hope you recognize the location and nice to see another plymouth member.
fomapan 100 1:200 R09 dev for an hour one agitation at 30 min and the start prewash for 3 min, not sure about the highlights on the tower block kinda look muddy and a bit blocked up would have liked to compare two shots one with normal dev process and one in stand

I can't find fault with the 60 minute girl.

Letting a tray stand for a 30 minute lunch break seems a reasonable approach. I use a coffee-spoon of one-shot Rodinal added to a paper cup of water poured into another paper cup of pre-soak (4cc + 300cc or 1:75). Less than 4cc seems to become exhausted by an 8x10 sheet of film. Thirty seconds agitation (the anti-halation dye seems to do no harm), cover and go to lunch.
This effortless but sloppy chemistry will rightfully be shot down by the experts.
Temperature can change a lot in 30 minutes in a shallow tray but the fact that the sheet sits on the bottom of the tray, below the developer, seems to be what stand is all about . I tried a vertical tank and steel frames (in the days when I did 13 liter tanks) but got the impression that the chemicals were precipitating to the bottom, so I used to hang negatives sky-side up. Did Montensen leave his tanks in the fridge overnight?

I was commenting on the subject matter as opposed to the processing.

Devonport, off there this morning for a while.

It is strange, there is plenty of contrast in the lower half of the image, but the white of the two tower blocks looks very 'muddy'.

I prefer semi-stand myself using Caffenol CL.

Days, until the emulsion was ready to come off. The attached images are from a test with Acros 100, Ilfosol, and five days in the fridge. The developer was initially diluted with cold tap water, the film was agitated, and then placed in my fridge. I agitated it in the morning and evening. Five days was too long, and I think next time I'll try three.

Has anyone tried stand dev with X-ray film? Since it is so prone to scratching, just wondering if that is a suitable alternative.
