RIP for Epson 2100 and which papers to choose

I think I've finally decided on the Epson 2100 over the 4000. It's much cheaper (In Israel about $1000 as opposed to mor than $2000); the inks aren't substantially cheaper for the 4000; it's much smaller too. If I really want to do big prints, I think the 7600 is the way to go. Anyway, I've heard that for best quality b and w prints, I should get a special RIP for the 2100. Does anyone recommend any specific RIP, and where can I get it? Also, as far as paper is concerned, here is Israel I think I can only get Ilfod or Fuji papers. I prefer matte papers and I would like to know which papers in these brands are preferred

If you are on a Mac or would like to install Linux on a Windows machine QuadToneRip is the way to go. I use QTR on an Epson 890 with quad inks but works very well with Epson's inks. Profiles for the 21/2200 are provided.

    http://www.harrington.com/QuadToneRIP.html

    Here's a copy and paste:

"QuadToneRip now offers the easiest turnkey method of black & white quadtone printing. For printers and inksets that have been profiled it is now the easiest and most versatile. All the latest profiles below not only install automatically with a simple double-click but they also automatically configure your USB printer for QuadTone printing without needing to use Print Setup.

The latest UT2 inks for the Epson 1270 and 1280 have profiles for three different tones, carbon, neutral and sepia. With blending you can get 40 different variations of tone. They support both matte and glossy papers with only one inkset -- use the Eboni black ink. They also include complete soft proof profiles so you can see what the print will look like before printing.

QuadToneRIP now supports the 21/2200 and 76/9600 printers with Epson UltraChrome Inks. The profiles provide metamerism-free Black & White printing with a full range of tones from cool to neutral to warm and sepia."

I am very happy with Imageprint, which takes the Epson 2100/2200 to a higher plane of quality B&W (and color) printing. Previously, I had used the MIS hextone B&W inks on a veteran Epson 1200. The combination of this printer and this RIP is a pleasure to use. BUT, one important suggestion: buy it from http://www.lexjet.com/lexjet/imageprint.asp . They are a super retailer, and I buy all my paper from them. Ink too. My favorite paper with B&W is the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. Also, the Lexjet people offer great technical support for this software, which you can't get from the Imageprint people. By the way, I'm a photographer, not a representative for this company.

imageprint is good and gives very good B&W (as well as colour) - but it certainly bumps up the price of your printer.... But if you want it $100 cheaper than lexjet, go to www.eximvaios.com (I don't think it's listed for the 2200, but email them - excellent service, good prices ontheir papers as well, and also good support for imageprint).
