Three way head options to mate 8x10 arca to a gitzo series 5?

Currently using a rss bh55. Stable, but impractical for independent axis movements. Any suggestions of a good solid reasonably priced three way head to mate an arca 8x10 to the gitzo 5?

    Must be stable/solid

As light as possible without compromising stability

    Cube is too expensive

How much is reasonable? How heavy is the camera with your heaviest lens?

Excuse me for promoting my wares, but this is right up my alley.
Before giving up entirely on ball heads, I might suggest trying an FLM ball head with tilt lock.

The CB-58FTR can support 60kg, weighs 780g, and costs about $500.
The CB-48FTR can support 45kg, weighs 580g, and costs about $450.
Either will support your 8x10, I use both on my KMV.

Best of all, you can lock one axis independently for quick levelling.

How about a no nonsense 3 way head that's a perfect mate for your Gitzo Series 5 leg set. it weights 2.90lbs low profile and holds up to 22lbs.

And that head can often be found used on Ebay for 30% to 50% less than new cost. I use it with all my cameras up to and including my 14x17, so your Arca-Swiss will be no problem at all.

I have the older #5 low profile Gitzo and paid $75, it works perfectly and I can sit on it if need be ;-)

I had a Gitzo #5 low-profile head--the current model, and it was good, but not nearly as stable as an Arca-Swiss B2, which is a pan-tilt head that looks like a ball head (or alternately, a ball head that works like a pan-tilt head). The B2 is much more expensive, however.

I'll second the Rationale #5. I have that head on a 4020 tripod. I turned it into a QR head by adding a Cambo heavy duty QR adapter. At first the adapter plate kept slipping around on the head, so I added a second hole to the adapter plate and tapped it for 1/4" x 20 threads. (Well, technically speaking, I didn't do that...a friend of mine who does that sort of work did it for me...). Now I can drop my Toyo 810M onto the head and pull it off in a matter of seconds. I love that combination.

Another vote for the older Arca B2. With a heavy camera high above the axis, I only want one axis to adjust at a time.

I bought mine for $25 on ebay(late night auction, but still...). Mine's the older, flat(black colored) handled one. Probably 25-35yo, but works great!
It needed a new piece of cork(I just replaced all of it), but it works great and handles(handled) my 8x10 Arca(now with a new owner), and currently my 5x7 DD WONDERFULLY!!!

super stable, although I'm probably a bit too heavy to "sit on it"
