    Gary Nylander in LensWork

The recent issue of LensWork magazine (May-Jun 2013) features the splendid work of Gary Nylander. The subject of his portfolio is the Cowichan Bay Shipyard on Vancouver Island. In the tradition of large format, Gary uses a 4x5 view camera with black and white film. His understanding and capture of light, both interior and exterior, is remarkable. For those unfamiliar with Gary's work, his website serves as an introduction.

    Congratulations to Gary, well done!

Don't get the magazine but good for him-well deserved.

Thank-you Merg for that wonderful introduction! I appreciate your very kind remarks. I have always admired the photography featured in LensWork and feel very honoured that my work has been featured in the latest issue. In my humble opinion I think LensWork is one of the best photography out there!

I just received my copy of this issue of LensWork and had a look at your essay. Having built several boats myself I really love the subject of your work, and your use of light is masterful.

Also, Vancouver Island is a wonderful place. You are lucky to live there.

Thanks Sandy for the kind words. Yes I agree that Vancouver Island is a wonderful place, I grew up there till I was 21 years of age, still have family there and love to visit there and have the opportunity to photograph in such a beautiful place.
