How old is my Deardorff?

I'm curious to find out who is older... me or my Deardorff? The serial number is 1283. Can anyone date it?

Ken,

I sent you an email but I see you are here so I thought I would give this a shot. I recently came to own a beautiful Deardorff 5X7 with the 4X5 back as well. The metal is absolutley perfect and the wood is in lovely condition. I feel lucky to have it. The serial number is 972, can you tell me when it was made?
