    Also, I've heard about this thing happening but never actually seen it myself, so my other question is simply, why would someone do that, what benefit do they gain from posting false images?

    The fact that the poster was new to the forum, their only posts were to post those images, all of the images posted were very, very different, aside from having strange aspect ratios, and not least, the photo of the mountain goats (?) looked like it was taken with a supertelephoto.

    Since they didn't link back to a site, which might be interpreted as trying to drive ad clicks, I'm not sure what they stood to gain, other than undeserved praise.
