ok, no plastic phillips. any new developments in composite wood?
would plastic be heavier? i figured the boards could be hollowed out, leaving some ribs for structural support.
a phillips compact ii in whole plate format made out of titanium and ABS plastic. one day, i'll learn how to make it myself!
i might go tomorrow, just waiting to hear back from friends.
see any good books there?
old thread comes back from the dead!
so...how high is the 003414 without the column raised?
just making sure, but is an adapter disc the same thing as a power disc with the gitzo gs5000c disc adapter screwed on?
also, is the gs3320d power disc interchangeable with the gs2320d power disc?...
For some reason, manufacturers and online retailers sometimes neglect to state the dimensions of the platform and/or base of their tripods and tripod heads. How do you know if a certain head is too...
is there a way to attach a linhof quickfix onto a rrs bh-55? i'm considering two versions of the bh-55: the one with no clamp or platform, and the one with a round platform of unknown diameter...
large format is impractical at this volume, but 6x7 will get the job done.
medium format digital would give you the best of both worlds. it also doesn't hurt that it's digital.
the pentax 645d...
i almost got carried away trying to get one of these things. prices have gone crazy, as well as those who want one. =)
looking at a canham mqc57 broke the spell, though. there's no way i'm going...
$5,655.55
tried and lost.
can't really complain. that's damned expensive.
i think it's the lack of support struts that allows the back to flex more on the mqc57 (and dlc45). the swing/shift mechanism itself is really solid.
i drove down to samy's this afternoon to look at their 8x10 cameras. they have one deardorff in what would be bargain condition at keh, and one new canham traditional. i liked how the dearforff...
yup, double lines.
stopping down unavoidably reduces spherical aberration. if the lens is overcorrected for spherical aberration, stopping down will therefore improve the bokeh behind the plane of...
some areas in the middle and lower right have hexagonal bright rings, and some of the curved branches in the lower half are ni-sen. since there's so much going on, it's not obtrusive in this photo,...
i think the one at f/22 looks nice. it just isn't as blurry.
the foliage in the top right corner looks a little ni-sen at f/6.1, but i'm not sure if it's the photo or jpg artifacts.
the grass...
the 35mm summicron pre-asph is a good example of the variability of bokeh. its reputation as "the king of bokeh" rests solely on its performance at medium apertures and medium focus distances....
yes, another thread spawned by chris perez's six lens matchup!

i'm interested in the bokeh of compact 210mm(-ish) lenses: the 210/6.1 xenar,...
while the arca swiss f-field and gandolfi traditional are also very "itchy" cameras in the $5-6k range, the phillips is definitely the top contender in the $3-4k range. i guess that's why i feel it...
there's an unused phillips compact ii on ebay! a very desirable camera by all accounts, combining light weight and rigidity thanks to an ingenious design. contemporary photographers like alec soth...
you could say that again. there are so many variations of the master, i can't keep them straight!
what's the biggest lens that can fold up into a technika?
i've seen them go for $700-950 on ebay. the lowest price was for one in near mint condition, so the price is quite flexible.
you could say that again. i never really gave a thought to either ultra large format or panoramic cameras, but now i absolutely must get a 7x17!
thanks, oren. i found some more info on the internet to make up this list:
4x5
90mm f/5.6 super-angulon xl: 86mm
8x10
165mm f/8 super-angulon: -
210mm f/8 super-angulon: -
210mm f/8...
lol, that rear cell looks huge. how wide is it?
could you type those down? i only have access to the current catalogs that are online. at the moment, this is my list of lenses that have rear cells larger than 85mm:
480mm f/8.4 apo-symmar-l...
what size is too big? if it's the maximum diameter of a copal 3 shutter, 102mm, the only lens i know that's larger is the 480mm f/8.4 apo-symmar-l (110mm). i could only find comprehensive specs on...
good to know. i never heard that before.
technika boards can take copal 3 shutters. maybe some other reason?
i was just wondering why lens boards for 8x10 cameras tend to be so large. it seems like many people use smaller technika boards instead.
oh, i was talking about the kardan gt, not the lensboards. those go for $40-80.
the kardan lensboards are larger than for the technika.
i have not seen many of these sell on ebay, but they go for roughly $600-800. the bag bellows goes for $100-200.
that's right, rub it in real good.
oh, i rue the day dick phillips closed up shop. i wonder if he'll sell me the plans...yeah, that would be awesome.
nice...didn't know they had that.
i wish they made an all black camera, like the original phillips compact ii. anyhow, this news surely trumps anything that was announced at pma, lol!
that is the kind of awesomeness i aspire to. too bad i don't know anything about mechanics and electronics.
are there any differences between the older and newer versions of the componon-s, especially when it comes to color? all i know is that the newer version has an illuminated aperture scale.
i have...
after i've saved enough money, i think i'll miss the phillips compact ii the most. :(
