This is only valid for 135 film. If you scan 120 film or sheet film, the winner changes rapidly to the flatbed scanner.
Maybe Linhof thought it was (Org-Linhof Prospect)

I had the opportunity to see the lens. Its a complete set of 3 lens elements (one front and two rear) in perfect condition.
It has compact design other than the later ATX lenses (front filter diam....
To complicate a bit more. The Schneider-Kreuznach APO-Tele-Xenar HM 600/8 800/11 (Hypermanual) according to serial no. was manufactured in 1986. My Apo Tele Xenar 12/800 and the later Apo Tele Xenar...
I have the early Apo Tele Xenar 12/800 and the late Apo Tele Xenar Convertible 600/800, but only the 600 rear element. The front lens element of both lenses is much larger than the "intermediate"...
Yes it seems to be a intermediate prototype between the 800mm/12 APO Tele Xenar HM and the later Apo Tele Xenar 600/800 convertible lens.
But I doubt that reversing the lens elements you get a 600mm...
Because of details unmatched by digital.
Here a 9x15`film cneg in whole and detail (scanned 2400dpi Epson 850).
File size 20k x 35k.

Do you see the detail plot?
Old drumscanner wishdom: Opening the scanner aperture gives a small loss of sharpness but a big gain of grain reduction.
Steven, sorry for the critical words but I was irritated by your statement still having to "adjust the distance of the 8x10 on the v850 to improve focus".
Thank you for your explanantions, now I see...
Hi Alan, comparing your pics after sharpening the Epson scan I see not much difference. Its clear that the flatbed technic with diffuse lighting always produce some blurring that can be nearly...
Hm, before showing critical comparison between V850 and Howtek or else you must adjust Epson focus, or what else do you want to prove? Did you scan on groundglass or filmholder (wet-mounting FH)? How...
Its a 3-step-workflow and it should work. After descreening dont forget a careful final (USM) sharpening.
Good luck!

Hi Nick,
Silverfast Scan and (HDR Studio) Archival Software is a unit, so a solid solution for your long term project. Viewscan cannot (!) post-process their own raw-files, you need a second...
Hi Nick,
its not clearly said by Silverfast, but scanning in Raw file mode should override/cancel all single settings we are discussing here.
The discussed settings are made in the second step...
Better stop down 2 steps, this was the consensus in the 70th among professional photographers when the high resolution films like Kodachrome film came and the new generation of HR optics from Nikon,...
For preferences in Silverfast you should choose Input: Epson V800/850 reflektiv or none, Intern: standard sRGB or wide gammut RGB, Gray: none, Output your "printer" or none. ICC profile none.
To get...
Double mounting front and rear of the lens is an interesting solution. Can this construction work outdoors? Shurely not with tapefixing, but Grimes will help.
Why are you looking for a 9/800...
Thank you for the info. I have a Compound 5 shutter too, but found the sinar shutter more versatile. Sinar has 75mm/3` opening, a bit more than the Compound5. You hang the lens behind the shutter? I...
Better in what respect?
11x14`should even work with the Nikkor T-ED 800
Lately I got a Apo Ronar-S 9/800 and succeeded in cleaning a fungus lens inside and mount it on a Sinar shutterboard. On my Toyo 8x10G camera with all horizontal and vertikal shifting the lens easily...
Congratulations! Can you show us some pictures with this lens ...

I scan my 8x10 colornegs with the epson wetmounting holder in two parts and stich after. So I have the high-resolution scan and ICE dust removel.
For BW there is no ICE. The resolution advantage of...
Both front and rear standarts have zero-adjustment screws. Rear has one, front has two on each side (one at the bottom). They easy become loose, after fixing you better do not hold/transport the...
That changes the task. Not the most obtainable DOF, but the most pictorially DOF is what you want. For that task trust your eyes on the screen of your camera.
If the DOF calculator gives 0,3mm tolerable unsharp-circle for 11x14, this calculation gives about 0,4mm for your 14x16. That expands the 11x14 values to about x1,2 or x0,8f-stop number (as said...
DOF is physically relative to focal lenth and the f-stop of the lens, not to the film format. A 150mm lens at f11 always gives the same DOF no matter the film format (a 150mm lens as a telelens for...
Prewash in BW development never is wrong, but the question to expand, keep or even shorten developing time is not clearly answered. Maybe it depends on the film.
But prewash with Colorfilm is...
I use a SA165MC on my 9x15`ULF - and it covers easily the 425mm or 17` IC with very good sharpness in the corners at f22. I even can shift up for 25mm/1`for illumination. So for your 7x17 ULF maybe...
I agree with Paul.
Functionally for me Epson Scan2 (WIN) is a downgrade. I personally have a V700 and a V850. Its the software why I stay with the V700. The most important densitometer window of...
EpsonScan2 is for Win10/11 (and Apple) and only works with the V800/850 scanner. EpsonScan works only for V700/750 scanner. They are not interchangeable.
The Epson Site for the driver interface patch:

But if you have the latest driver, the...
Itīs definitly the problem that WIN11 cannot handle the GUI of the elder 32bit Epson Scan Software. I myself had this problem a year ago and downgraded/stayed to Win10. Epson said that there is a...
Hm, please give us the formula for these results. And do you calculate the "critical aperture" or the "beneficial aperture" here?
As I can reconstruct, you give us the convential "beneficial...
In short: DOF sharpness increases by aperture stopping down. And lens sharpness increases by lens aberration minimizes. But opposite the physic diffraction of light at the aperture borders decreases...
This is valid for best sharpness and equal DOF on film!.
But in the conventional photografie DOF is defined and calculated for the (same) print-size!
For a 10x enlargment of a 4x5 you only have to...
Yes and no. Your argument that for the same(!) final enlarged printsize every physical differences described here in DOF, resolution and diffraction (and film) will be equalilized, I myself cant...
Its becoming a bit complicated:
Thats physic law so no discussion
Thats right. If you want to shoot the same (reality) picture with 4x5 or 8x10 format with the same (!) DOF , you have to...
DOF is only related to lens focal, not to filmformat.
My Symmar 210 on 4x5 has the same DOF as my (mostly used) SAngulon 210 on 9x15.
