I use the chamonix 4x5 and 5x7 and they are very well made. I have a small brake/shear that I use to trim the aluminum plates. I've heard from other wet platers that the 4x5 is now a true 4x5 size,...
I have not used the Eskimo, but know a few who have. They are hot in the sun, even up north. They also have light leaks at the seams that need a sealing spray almost every time they are set-up, and...
The FR tanks have a separate light trap that fits on top of the film holder, and under the lid, it appears to be missing in the photo (which might explain the wooden blocks).
Hardware store have 3/8" inserts for wood. Just drill another hole in the tripod block near the 1/4" hole.
I've got one, and it's not that silent. You hear a good thwack when it opens and closes. The inner doors open to the outer pockets, and mine was mounted to a board placed in the camera so you could...
On Jo Lommen's website, it appears another batch of aero ektar lens boards will be available soon.
This might be considered a commercial ad, so the moderators may step in; but I have one of these...
My aero ektar is 2 millirem on contact with the rear element. The legal limit for the public, for dose from a nuclear plant for a non-radiation worker, is 100 millirem (mr) per year (No one gets...
I think I've got it figured out. With the filter holder clamping screws removed, the plastic ring's legs are clipped into the screw holes, then the assembly is stuck to the lensboard with a circle...
I just purchased a set of Ilford below the lens VC filters which came with a black plastic circle with three legs. No instructions were included, and the Ilford site has no information. I'm...
I purchased a used bellows from ebay a couple of years ago, came with the attached metal pieces, which made it real easy to replace. There are 8 screws top and bottom.

Bostick and Sullivan, and highly recommend John Coffer's manual.
Great info Ari and Joe. I often send people interested in wetplate to Joe's site, a really great intro to the process.

That's not a wet-plate holder, it's a contact printing frame. It's gotten common for ebay sellers to label things as wet plate, can you use it for wet plate? good luck! I use an 8x10 film holder,...
I have had several speed graphics, including one that was modified to remove the spring back focusing screen and attach a roll film holder (poor man's graflock back).
This one looks homemade, and...
I talked with Chemsavers a few months ago, they no longer sell cyanide, and I believe they were the last to sell to individuals. Turns out, the FBI came to visit twice over sales to persons who used...
I use an x-ray viewer from a medical facility, about $20 for a 24x18 inch viewer. Works for me, since it usually for B&W, and for quick viewing prior to scanning.

KCn is getting harder to buy, my last commercial vendor stopped selling it. I would also recommend John Coffer's manual for wet plate (I think its about $80 now) which also includes videos. I made...
I think that since it is a 4x5 wide angle lens, with a small f-stop, it was a way to keep the cost down. It is handy that it also has a "T" setting along with "B".
Most of the 4x5 press lenses came...
I have that same lens on an old glass-slide projector, sitting in the attic. Might try the lens out someday, but it doesn't appear to be worth the asking price (in my opinion).
This is a great starting link:

or, purchase the lens guide from the same site.

I live in SW New Hampshire, and have several 7x17 negatives that I would like to have scanned.
Does anyone in the area know who can scan this size?
The Greenfield, Mass, or Manchester, NH...

Buy his manual with videos. This is the most comprehensive information when starting out, or as a reference when you've been shooting collodion for awhile.

In the past, the EU concentrate was diluted more, don't know why the difference.

The 50/60 cycles is not a problem. However, a lot of transformers used for 110-220 conversions are "auto-transformers" which will allow the voltage to drop as they are loaded up. I recommend using...
Aero Ektars are alpha, beta, and gamma emiiters due to thorium, about 1.5 to 2.0 millirem on contact, mostly gamma. (I don't have access to an alpha detector, so I can't give the alpha specs). The...

I was able to go at the last minute, very enjoyable, and I really liked hearing the background on some of his photos. Well worth the $20, spent more on gas getting there. Thanks Gary.

Randy,
I searched and could not find the stock # either (I used the code off the invoice, go figure?)
So, I linked to the wheel that I purchased. Can't guarantee that it will fit other models....
My Ansco studio camera stand had the old original wheels which scratched my wood floors. I purchased some new casters with grey wheels and chrome hardware, not as bad as the gold ball casters I've...
It is a dry plate holder, the plate thickness was not standard back in the day, and the plate could tilt backward without the spring. The clips hold it in. Possible, but messy to use it for wet...
The French Quarter has had a bad reputaion, mostly from having lots of bars staying open late, lots of drinking in the streets, which can be a bad combination. But, I have met some of the greatest...
I vote NO. I am definitely not opposed to nude photography, having subsribed to shutterbug, popular photography, and national geographic over the years. The issue is viewing on the computer, and...
Good luck Bruce. I'll bet Richard's camera will long outlast your chevy van!

I asked the folks at Impossible Project if they were planning to provide film for the 545, or film pack cameras. They said no, they didn't get any of the equipment that was used to manufacture that...
Check Black Art Woodcraft, or Ty Guillory for cameras, both excellent, and Black Art also makes darkboxes. Buy John Coffers manual, the best to get started with, and ArtCraft Chemicals is a good...
The rear element on the 7"/2.5 will show a little bit of yellow/brown coloring. The rear glass contains radioactive thorium, and will be about 2-3 millirem on contact. Store it away from the kids.
I haven't used these folks, but they're in Western Mass near I-91, and the website states that they do 4x5 C-41.

Send him an international money order for $110, most anything else you buy will be a waste of money. Your basic chemicals are going to cost about $200 just to get started with 4x5 plates.
