To me it is still cropping. If all stays the same but the size of film, I am just cropping the image circle more with a 4x5 the image the lens produces is still the same, I only decide to record less...
I am such an Idiot ! I had no idea you could take off the ground glass. I guess lesson learned. I just checked and of course it comes off and the Fuji back fits in perfect. Thank you so very much for...
Hi,
I just found out that a ShenHao HZX viewcamera and a Fuji PA-145 may not be a perfect match.... I recently purchased a PA-145 back to use Fuji FP100C with my 4x5 and in the beginning all went...
Seems you read my mind and answered my follow up question as well ;)
Thanks Petr ! I guess I will get the wide angle bellows before going into really wide lenses.
Thank you all very much! I just purchased a very reasonably priced 100mm and will see how far I get with it. Seems like there is at least a chance it will work out. But yes, I agree in the long run I...
Hi,
Does anyone know how wide I can go with the standard bellows with my HZX-IIA 45? I am looking for a lens for cityscapes and would want to go 100mm or wider.
Thanks for your help
Dennis
There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I just would prefer not doing it. I love my 4x5 and would hate to mess it up with dripping silver nitrate or whatever. Also I don't think I would need all...
And on a second note, you guys are awesome! The help and advice I am getting on this forum is tremendous! Thank you again!
Thank you everyone! I really like what I am seeing at blackartwoodcraft. I will send them an email and request a quote.
Kindest regards
Dennis
Hi,
I am currently looking for an 8x10 camera exclusively for wet-plate work. It will be used for portraits and still lives 95% of the time, so I am really not to concerned about movements.
Yes...
Well it happens every now and then. Not very often, but it does happen to me. I never had this happen on any of my own images though. I got close out of frustration, but that is hardly what you mean....
Hi,
I can only second what was said here before. It is neither a batch of honor, nor a achievement. If you prefer working in other formats what so ever, by all means do it. It is not about the...
Thank you all very much. I now have a much better understanding. I will look for the Softar filters, but also for a SF lens. Seems that even great filters still are not an easy replacement for a SF...
What I meant to say was, that I want to use a filter , not that I am using one ... Sometime my iPad does strange things to my writing and I will not realize until after I hit send ...
Hi,
Are there any usable soft focus filters on the market? I am using a filter for women portraiture in b/w. or is it a stupid idea and I should get a decent soft focus lens, because chances are,...
I am using a jobs 2520(?) and a 2509n spiral and with 4 sheets it works great, I have fairly even development, but it sure uses a lot of chemicals. Still I have to say this is a very convenient way...
Hi,
I started out with a 150mm Nikkor. It is ok for 1:1 reproduction since you need roughly twice the length of bellows, than the focal length, making 150 barely fitting on my view camera with 360...
Hi, i just bought a custom made ground glass from Steve Hopf, I can only highly recommend him. The ground glass I bought from him is about 1.5 stops brighter than the original and so amazingly even....
Hm, how did you dry your film? Mine takes several hours to dry so 45 min sounds a little short to me, if you are not using any drying cabinets or such. Never the less, it should not really be sticky....
Thank you James. Still I would argue that my darkroom prints look better than my scans ... Or at least this is what I want to believe ;)
Well, here we go ... the very first one ... not properly focused to start off with ...
Shen Hao , Nikkor 150 , HP5+

Please forgive me, this is my first LF shot and on top of that I am new to scanning as well ...

Hi,
If you have a bowens Gemini 500 set you should have 250W modeling lights in them, so using them at full power fairly close might be an option. The only thing is, you may have to add some gels...
For flash/studio work I use my sekonic l-358 for everything else it would be my Soligor Sensor-2.
Thank you Ken!
So after reading up a little more about lenses and bellow extensions, I have one more question. I sad that you would need about 1.2 times the focal length for normal subjects and about 2x bellow...
Well, after looking for the mentioned lenses, I guess I will up my budget a little. Still looks all very reasonable to me.
Hi Steve,
thank you so very much for your very comprehensive and educational reply. I think I learned more about lenses out of your one post than I did trying to google it for the last few weeks....
Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I am still very new to LF and learning about all the different lenses and lens designs is somewhat overwhelming in the beginning. I think I got a good...
Hi,
Are there any meetups/groups for LF photography in Berlin/Germany or some people interested in getting one of the ground or people willing to help out a newbie with his first LF experiences?
...
Hi,
I am sorry for testing your patience with another newbie question. I just got my first 4x5 camera a few weeks back and I bought a 150mm lens with it, which is great and makes me really happy...
Thanks everyone, I decided to go with a borosilicate GG from Steve Hopf. It should be in the mail, so we will see if it makes a difference.
Thx a lot this is a great alternative! I was not aware that you can just mix and match. I will definitely look for this alternative then, as I have to admit I am a little skeptical about all the...
Thank you for your answers. Yes, I figured out to open up the lens and not trying to focus stopped down, but still it is hard for me to see. As soon as the darkcloth is not pulled tight around the...
Hi,
I finally got my Shen-Hao 4x5 and I am excited to dip my feet into LF photography. Even though I am absolutely excited about my first LF camera, there is one thing that bothers me a tiny bit....
Thank you John, I found it on Amazon and just ordered it !
Hi,
my name is Dennis and after spending the last years shooting medium format and 35mm I would really, really like to get started in at least 4x5. To date I have no experience what so ever with...
