Nice article - Nice images too. Congrats!
If anyone is up in between Denver and Utah (I'm in Glenwood Springs), I'd be happy to put together a group up here. I shoot on a wisner 4x5.

I posted a thread earlier today about trying to print from a 9880, 44x100". Couldn't ge the epson drivers to do it.
I downloaded both QT RIP and Colorburst... QTR works, but seems to only print...
I'm using CS3... would you consider this an 'older verison'?
What RIP's would you suggest?
Thanks for your help.
I'm trying to print a photograph at 44x100", 300 dpi.
It spools the print, but then it never ends up in the printer dialog box.
I have to hang this piece tomorrow... and help would be greatly...
I know this is an old thread, but I still have a question about optimal scanning size with a 4x5 B&W neg on a 4870.
If I scan at 4800 dpi, would I scan the negative at 100% (4x5"). My desire is...
I am looking to print B&W images (from large format negs) on canvas (with a 9880), and am looking for something archival that has less texture... more like paper/i.e. not the cheezy "I made a photo...
I saw some prints in AZ that were made on Ilford Smooth Perl paper... and they were the closest thing I have seen to a traditional silver print.
The problem is that it's an RC paper with a life of...
I am photographing, at times, 200-300 pages (4 to a page) of 4x5" negs (a backlog of work), so scanning is not a timely option. They are B&W, so color is not important... just even light to render...
I am photographing (digitally) my 4x5 negs to make contact prints, and am having a hard time finding a small lightbox (10x12" to 12x18" give or take) with EVEN light. I bought a logan slimedge? and...
Interesting idea... way to think outside the box.
Not sure if you are getting my question. I am looking for a way to scan 8x10" plastic sheets (each holding 4-4x5" negs) that is QUICK, like a document scanner. I don't want to run 400 scans on a...
I work with B&W 4x5" negs, and always make traditional contact prints/sheets (four to a page) for reference.
Is there anyone out there having success with a quicker way to scan/print them? I was...
The epson driver should be updated. It sends things fine when it's a 70-130MB'ish size file... but going larger I get the spinning beach ball of death. Some times it will finally send it after 10...
1. I have been sending large prints (44"x44") to my 9880 from my Powermac G5 (2GB memory) and PS (CS3) keeps crashing. I ordered 2 more GB of RAM, and another FW hard drive..... will that help my...
Would it be worth the extra $400 for the Spyder 3 studio (listed above) since it seems to be able to make paper profiles? Or would something in this price range not produce good profiles?
If I...
sorry... mostly just monitor calibration, not profiles. Unless there is a system for not much more that does both... :)
Do I need the software, and the rest of the stuff that comes with the package I listed, or would I be able to make it work with just the spectrometer?
Thanks.
Is this an option that will work well? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/484459-REG/Xrite_EOPLT_Eye_One_Photo.html

I am looking for an affordable monitor calibration device (under 1k). I am currently printing on a 9880, and what the screen sees and what prints are two very different things. I am mac based, if...
Can anyone recommend a good fireproof media cabinet that doesn't cost more than my 9880 and still has a good bit of room?
I found one by fireking, but I don't think it's rated well for heat:...

I have a Power Mac G5, dual 1.8 processors, 2GB of RAM.

How would the 9600 color ink set work for printing watercolor reproductions? Would it be as bit a difference between the 9800? That is about the only color work I would be doing...
wow. if that's the case, I might just look into an older one.
Why do you prefer the 9600 to the 9800? are the piezo inks not compatible with the 9800?
Thanks.
I thought the 9880 fixed this...? I thought it allowed both to be installed, thus not needing a big ink dump to switch..?

I know there are a lot of differing thoughts on this. Epson seems more tried, HP has a built in profiler (very nice).
Any thoughts on which 44" printer would be a better choice for B&W printing? ...
The larger prints would be done from drum scans, small prints from a 4870. I intend to do very large work, so that is what necessitated the printer size.
