Try coffee. I've used it and it works great. Completely safe as opposed to some toners. It does work fast, so start with a test print.
I have the Domke Outpack and it carries a 4x5, 3 lenses, spotmeter, 10 film holders and lots of little stuff and easily fits in the overhead bin.
For my particular set of equipment and processes, when I use Tri-x and pyro, I found that I needed to cut the time recommended in the Hutchings book by about 25%. Try it and see.
Hello all: I have recently started printing quite a few of my pictures on warm- toned paper, which I really like. In the past, I always toned my prints (nuetra l or cold-toned paper) in selenium. ...
I also have a Wisner Tech Field 4x5 and routinely use a 90mm super angulon with no difficutly what so ever. I can use this lens with the regular bellows if not employing much in the way of...
Maybe I am just lucky, or not discerning enough, but I use a 135mm lens (Vivitar name on a rodenstock) and make enlargements up 20x24 with no problem. I typically enlarge at f16.
I also have an older imagon (I just bought it, so it is new to me), although mine is the 250mm which is for 4X5 format. Mine is also mounted in compound shutter, which while older, is a very...

Actually it is good to have both on the front standard. Axial tilt is good for focus, while the base tilt and axial tilt used in combination let you use a much shorter focal length lens than many ...
Thank you all for your help. After careful consideration, I think I will stick with trays, gloves and all.
Does anyone have any experience with the Nikor stainless steel tank for 4x5 film processing. I am thinking of the one with the cylindrical cage-like device for holding 12 sheets of 4x5. I have used...

That listing says it is a "B+W Softar". Softar is made by Zeiss. The listing is misleading.
There is a company called "Film for Classics" that carries just about anything, or they will cut down to your spec. They are on the web.
Check Midwest photo. I bought a D-2 from them last year that I paid $175 for (no lens, but everthing else). It looks its age, but works great. I bought a used zone IV cold light for $100 that I...
I recently bought a Gra lab 300 timer which has glow in the dark numbers and han ds. It is pretty bright in the dark. Does anyone know whether this "glow" will have an effect on unprocessed film? ...
I use Oriental Seagull fiber-based paper. It is a double weight paper and very good quality. I let the prints dry naturally on a large screen. They normally dry well in about 24 hours. This...
I am thinking about investing in a Rodenstock Imagon lens for my 4x5 field camer a. I wonder if any of you have any experiences with this lens that you would be willing to share. I have various...
This is an anecdote, rather than a question. I share it for the humor value. I recently visited Chicago (from my home in Northern Virginia) and took some phot os that I thought might be good. I...
I regularly use XTOL diluted 1:3 for Tri-X and have found it to be very satisfactory. I use trays, though rather than tanks. I too had experienced some streaking problems with tanks in the past. ...
Thank you all for your help!! It turns out that rather than the light tubes slipping down, the diffuser had been pushed part way up into the housing, bringing it too close to the light tubes. I...
I just divide 30 seconds by the number of sheets I am developing and count out (mentally) the seconds between moving a sheet from the bottom to the top of the stack. It works for me, and I seem to...
I recently bought a used zone VI cold light for my Omega D-2. It is an older li ght (aluminum finish) and when I put it in the enlarger, I can clearly see the p attern of the light tube projected...

Thanks in advance, ...
Another good pan and tilt head is the Bogen 329. It is lighter than the 3047 and has a higher max load.
I have a Berlebach tripod that I bought from Calumet and am very pleased with it. It is much, much less expensive than the Ries.
I have two lenses for my 4x5, a 90mm and 180mm. Both are modern lenses in moder n shutters, and I paid what I consider to be a fairly large sum for each, althou gh both were used. I need a longer...
