I have always found darr to be very generous and genuine with her help and advice on this forum. Your nit-picking of her posts sounded unnecessarily aggressive and unpleasant. You're kind of still...
Why do your posts sound increasingly aggressive? Why do you sound like a Lee salesman on commission? I like the Lee filter system too, but it's probably possible to get a little too religious about...
Hi John
You work fast!
Yes, I got my tophat from Robert White a while ago and it was definitely a bit pricey. The advantage is that it is very nicely made and can be used in various...
Hi John
Perhaps not exactly what you asked for, but a possible compromise option which would give you a bit more length than a 180 and probably not as much weight/bulk as your existing 210, is a...
IIRC the Ebony RW45 has over 300mm of bellows extension, in which case your 210mm lens should not need a top hat at all. Even less need for a top hat with a 180mm lens...
The Fujinon A 240 f/9 will cover 8x10
I'm looking for a source of replacement mainsprings for a couple of modern Copal 0 and Copal 1 shutters. Does anybody know if these can still be found anywhere? Many thanks for any leads!
Definitely don't google Bill Henson. He causes the local pearl-clutchers in Australia to hyperventilate too...
Actually, B&H are selling new packs of 2 for $149 (ie $75 each), but I believe Kumar can supply them cheaper than that from Japan.
Toyo, at least, still appears to be making new 4x5 plastic film holders
If you want to tray develop, and are happy to process only a small number of sheets (eg 4) at a time, I recommend buying/making a slosher tray. That is quite a nice way to keep the sheets separated...
I have seen these ones, and I think Badger Graphic sells the same or similar:
...
Yes, probably both
That's the nominal focal length. Once you tilt the film plane and focus the lens, you end up with a variable actual focal length corresponding to different points on the tilted film plane.
Thanks Guillaume. Very unlikely I will be in France this year, but will keep these shows in mind!
Wow, those Christophe Le Devehat multiple exposure images are pretty cool! Would love to see them in person. (Sadly, I won't be in France any time soon to see that exhibition you linked to,...
There are also holders made by In Camera Industries but I have never used them
Harrison tents are nice but I have had two Pups start to go sticky on me (in the warm humid climate of Brisbane), even when stored loosely folded. Any future changing tents I buy will be of the...
The Piezography inks are very good.
Yeah, i know it doesn't answer the OP's question, but I removed all my L-screws and use rubber bands instead...
Hi Steve. Things have been pretty quiet in this thread for a while. I have been super busy for the last few months and the LF photography has taken a back seat. Hopefully that will change in the...
Good on you, Dwarak! I look forward to seeing it when it arrives.
Hi Richard
Glad you found the thread. Welcome! Shame you just missed last week's beer!
Ian
On a forum like this, most people are attracted to contentious threads for the same sort of reason that they slow down to look at car crashes. That know that they are likely to see unpleasant stuff...
Hmmmm... you might be right!
(I have PM'd my mobile in case it is required)
Although my plan is cunning, I may be 20 mins late to Southbank...
Sorry guys - I didn't check this thread over the last couple of days as I thought there had been no new posts...
Friday arvo would be good. I am supposed to be on 2-year-old duty but I have a...
Hi Ari
I really like the idea, and the photos look good. I like the contrast. Just two comments:
- I prefer the shots where the subjects are looking at the camera, because they look more natural...
Hi Dwarak
Looks like you and I are the only takers.... I reckon we should wait until Stef is available to come too and bring his Chamonix for you to have a look at.
Ian
Refreshing beer this weekend anyone?
Actually, this link is better than the one I gave above. The other one seems to have expired...

Good news!
Most cable releases will do the job, and I suspect that there are a lot of different preferences out there. My favourite cable release is the Hama Professional (50cm) - I have two...
Ash, leaving aside the rest of your unsolicited and self-important tutorial, the comment I have highlighted above really requires a response. Your assertion that one should only post polished work...
Things are pretty good thanks, Stef. Shooting?? Not too much LF lately. Child-wrangling seems to occupy quite a lot of my spare time these days, so 35mm is mostly the first thing I reach for... ...
When I was looking at coatings last time, I asked a boatbuilder down at the local chandlery. He was pretty convinced that I should be using fibreglass as well as the epoxy and building out the...
Thanks vinny, bob
I have a nice big plywood sink that I built 2 years ago. I was just starting to investigate possible coatings when new baby arrived and darkroom construction went off the rails. ...
Interesting...
Those of you who are recommending West Systems epoxy on plywood: I gather that for this application it would be sufficient to just use the 105 resin + hardener as the final surface...
Greetings Dwarak. Welcome to the fold!
My personal feeling is that a dedicated panoramic camera is great... if you know you only want to do panoramas. A 4x5 plus a roll-film back will give you...
That's OK - this is not MOMA here, but rather a photo forum where amateurs share what they want to share of their efforts. Experimenting with different ideas may often lead into aesthetic...
