You can say that again. By going digital at our hospital we save 10's of thousands a dollars a year on film and processing chemicals. A lot of the procedures are digital anyway (CT, MRI, nuc med)...
I have bought film from J&C, B&H and some outdated colour 4x5 from Helix in Chicago. No problems at all. Just the usual drill - PST+GST+brokerage fee.
Thanks for the links. Here is what the $200 kit seems to have:
Omega D3 enlarger
Cold Head
VC head, old style with pull chain
Condenser head with lenses
VHE Vivitars (2.8/50mm and 5.6/80mm) -...
I've been offered an extensive Omega D3 outfit for $200 incl. a selection of 13 different-sized carriers, 3 lenses, 3 heads, etc. I think its a pretty good deal.
I'm a complete newbie here when...
I'll have to keep that in mind although I'm probably far too busy to do this. Work might also wonder where all that machine time is going...
I'll keep the group posted when I have some time to work on the project.
There is another nice benefit to the CNC mill as well - its not too much more work to churn out copies if I mill some new...
Not so concerned about resale since I intend to keep it. The movement modifications are tempting too. I have a very easy to program (windows interface) CNC mill at work.
With 2-3 weeks of...
Doesn't look so good to me. I think a stain and varnish or perhaps a veneer would go a long way for that camera.
There is a nice restoration I found HERE.
I have seen this too - but I cannot relocate it for the life of me! (anyone have it bookmarked?)
Has anyone here taken a post anniversary Graphic down to its wood? These were made of mahogany are they not?
I have a battered example here I only paid about $60 for. Leather is in pretty rough...
You certainly did a lot better with your 3200 in the bakeoff than me. Any tricks up your sleave? I've since upgraded to the Doug Fisher holders which are a little better than stock, and let me do...
The biggest problem with the Cokins is they are not neutral, rather they have a noticeable colour cast.
I have a 2 stop Hitech hard. I compared to the Singh Ray hard - it has a much harder...
Sounds good, but "real" Guiness comes from the keg and I'm going to hold you to that. ;)
London Ontario
I shoot some LF on my 4x5 monorail, mostly nature photography. I do some camera repair as a hobby.
Of course you should not pay duty or sales taxes on items sent out of country for repair and return. You need to cover your tracks and challenge the customs ruling if you do get hit. I sent out a...
Joe, what do you have? If its just a standard shutter CLA, I can have a look at that for you. Is London Ontario close enough for you? ;) Is two cases of beer cheap enough? ;)
PM me - we should...
A 5% focusing error of 6" at 10' translates into a huge focusing error close up.
The fact that it is back focusing suggests to me that the image forming part of your ground glass is too close to...
Maybe a W.A. Optar 90/6.8? I tried one I picked up for $50 for a short while until I purchased the Super Angluon 90/8 MC. Tiny, but probably best on a press camera where movements are not really an...
Distilled water boils at a LOWER temperature than water with solutes present. Basic chemistry :) Its a small effect, e.g. about one degree C for every 60 grams of salt added to distilled water.
So it seems the consensus is to regard it as a neutral density filter for most situations. That should hold true unless the subject one is metering has a small polarized component, in which case one...
Here's what might sound like a really dumb question for some of you. How exactly are people spot metering and calculating exposure when using a polarizer? Should you meter from the area that is...
I've yet to the read the article in any great depth, but does anyone else think that the train image used to analyze bokeh isn't really the best choice? Its those backgrounds with lots of highlights...
From my experience, I would have to say no. I subscribed Jan 20 and I'm still waiting for my Jan/Feb 2006, which VCM has confirmed shipped out over a month ago. I am hoping they will consider...
I thought that Docter Optik does exist, e.g. as far as I know they bought out the binocular business of CZ Jena as well, and still make them. They must have not seen much of a money making market in...
Doesn't really help you if you're "married" to the hex plate system but the Bogen / Manfrotto 329RC4 I luckily won in a local contest locks down rock solid with my CC-400. The plate is a large,...
Hasselblad and most MF SLRs/TLRs actually print a 56x56mm frame.
Great idea!
(I'm proud to be UBC alumnus)
As long as we are comparing what is essentially a close to LF image quality on a MF camera, to a LF camera, what about movements? Yes you need less movements for 645 format but you can still do more...
Excellent, I shall watch for sure.
Eric, I'm not certain that she repairs anything else but bare leaf shutters. Getting the shutter out of a Rolleiflex TLR takes some skill, and ignores the rest of the camera.
list includes - Contax II/III, Tenax II, folding Contessa, Contax IIA/IIIA, Contax S (worlds first pentaprism SLR), etc etc. Man was a genius.
Is it any wonder, since the Contax designer, Hubert Nerwin, also designed the Combat Graphic ;) I have and enjoy many of his Zeiss Ikon camera designs - browsing the page below, I suppose I should...

Have relatives in Niagara including Welland, Peter.
I kid you not - like usual, the scientific grade product costs a lot more. sigmaaldrich.com (have to register to get pricing though)
Ouch - was checking my chemical suppliers under PdCl2 and came up with $400 for 5 grams.
I just wish they would offer more options for permanent grid patterns. As it stands now I either have to print a transparency from a template or simply rule them on with a pencil.
I've decided to get one for my 4x5 Calumet monorail.
I had one in my 1920's plate camera and of course it was miles better than the stock screen. Its no comparison to the Maxwell in my MF...
Do a huge number of folding 35mm and 120 cameras not use the #00 size Compur? OK not a proper view camera shutter with preview but if you can find one with a cable release socket on the shutter...
If its a dial set Compur shutter, I have an article hosted on a "cleaning light" here:
http://www.davidrichert.com/camera_rebuilds.htm
That shutter was in my Voigtlander AVUS 9x12cm. Also,...
