Bad trigger discipline.
Years ago I got a small nitrogen tank in a junk shop. I also got a valve, pressure gauge, hose and regulator for next to nothing. A full charge lasts a year or two and I can swap it out for a full...
The Moon is far from monochrome, although the colors are subtle. Also, the hardware and people definitely had color. Color/BW has the same tradeoff on the Moon as the Earth.
On Apollo 12...
When it comes to art, a perfectly valid reason is, "because I feel like it".
"Extension cords should not be twisted in that manner"
Hi Vinny -
So what is the best method, and how is an extension cord different from a mic cord that they require different techniques? I...
In general, fast films fog more quickly than slow, however they're stored. I recently discovered a few rolls of Panatomic X that had been stored at room temperature since the day it was made. It...
"Welcome to the dark side..."
Don't you mean "dark slide"?
When people ask me why I still have a B&W darkroom, I answer, "because I feel like it". When it comes to personal art, I think its a pretty good answer. That way you can stay out of the whole "film...
Cool, save me some kway teow ;-)
I haven't used ilford MG in years because I don't care for the greenish cast. Toning never seemed to change it much. With the selection of papers getting smaller all the time, I may have to...
"...and your logic is specious."
I'm curious to know what part of my argument is invalid. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
As I said, I've never had a problem putting cold film in a...
Film doesn't freeze (change state) the way water does, at least at any reasonable temperature. Your only real worry is condensation. Since film doesn't have much mass, it warms up in a hurry. A...
They do the rest after you push the button.
I attended a Howard Bond workshop. There's nothing like watching someone who knows what they're doing, and being able to ask questions.
Hi All -
I'll be in Lynchburg next week and was hoping for some insider info. Google maps with the tripod holes already marked are much appreciated ;-)
I've had a DeVere 504 for a number of years now. It's a real joy to work with. You can take a negative out of the holder, clean it, put it back in and its still exactly in focus. I just don't...
"Bankrupt" doesn't necessarily mean "out of business", of course.
I don't think a 47mm will focus on a Horseman 6x9. A 65mm will focus, but only if you get the slightly recessed lens board that was made for it.
Good idea. I used to use a non-rigid insulated lunch container with a zip top. It held ten or so 4x5 holders like it was built for them.
Funny, I think the second one works better!
In the second pic the implication is that the glass is about to leave the picture. I know its not moving, but the "tail" provided by the shadow could...
Both ends of Folly Island are accessible. You get a nice view of the Morris Island Lighthouse from the NE end and its just a short walk to the end of the paved road.
Unitarian Cemetery is good,...
I posted this before so I'll just link to it...a "roof rack" for the Horseman 2x3.

I once found the original patent for Brightscreens..basically its a very thin application of some kind of epoxy resin. Permanent Vaseline.
A real problem with any 6x9 view camera is the screens. It's the difference between and iPad and an iPhone ;-)
Seriously, its small enough so that you need to get really close to it. An...
Uh oh, BBQ....this could be worse than Canon vs Nikon.
There's a place I went to years ago near Darlington....Browns maybe? Man was that ever good.
If you get the camera be sure the 65mm is on a recessed board. It's only recessed a few mm but you can't easily use front rise at infinity with a flat board.
Its a shame that you can't deal with...
I'm sure someone here has had a bad experience, but I've always been happy with them. I bought a BGN lens just this year that, had it been on eBay, would have been advertised as MINT! ;-)
Welcome! Singapore has the best street food in the world...I'm sure I'd find it hard to concentrate on shooting if I could smell the kway teow. Unless I ran into some durian ;-(
Film is taken. Lets spread some stuff around!
Good morning, LFers -
I recently sold all my 4x5 stuff. I came to the reluctant conclusion that my LF pictures were no better than what I was doing with roll film, at considerably more expense...
I dropped two very nice 82mm filters from the deck of this bridge: http://www.cooperriverbridge.org/
They were just small enough to roll under the railing. I heard them go "tink" on the rocks...
Film doesn't "freeze", at least not at 0C. I don't know where it undergoes a phase change, but its way lower than 0C. Plenty of film gets shot at much lower temperatures than this.
If there's more than one grade of an item available, I always buy the BGN. No doubt some people are fussier than I am, but I've never been disappointed. You can always send it back. The worst that...
Hi All -
I didn't know if this had ever been posted here before. My apologies if its a repeat.
Apparently screen brightness is improved by the application of a thin layer of epoxy.
The...
I know this has been talked about for ages but it looks like they're about to go on sale. Sorry if this is a repeat.
"New black & white films for use in traditional Polaroid cameras will go on...
In speaking to Bill Maxwell, he implied (although did not state directly) that he supplied the screens for Canham. They're darn good, where ever they come from.
Somewhere along the way someone mentioned Ilford Galerie. It's still being produced; at least Freestyle still has it. This is assuming there wasn't some earlier, better version.
I miss Kodak...
Did you see the second one? The seagulls and the lighthouse? Your Cup of Tea may vary, but that assuredly wasn't mine.
I'm pretty sure the rotary finder accepts a right-angle viewer, but it adds extension. If you use a 65mm lens, this could be a problem.
I really like my Horseman VH, and I consider the right-angle viewer to be an essential accessory. The problem is that it contains the ground glass, and you have to swap it with the film holder to...
