Thanks I noticed alot of photographers do end up taking a literal naming convention, or just naming it Unknown. I haven't decided whether I'll take the descriptive or literal route yet. These photos...

Well here I am finally nearing the end of my first bunch of work from Death Valley. I posted back in March with only a handful of photos and figured I'd remake my thread seeming the work has changed...
AH yes there we go. Low tech solution, I simply cut the film holder in half. Now I have two 4x5 film holders that hold 2 sheets of film each. Thanks for bringing the calibration area to my attention.
The only reason I was scanning at 72dpi was to test if the scanner even works. I generally scan at 2400-4800dpi for digital archiving. Thanks for the responses.
ah ha ok thats probably why I'm all buggered up. Maybe I'll try cutting this film holder I have apart and make my own. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Oh ya probably, I didn't know there was a calibration space. I assumed the epson holders covered the entire flatbed. Does anyone happen to have a picture of what the 4990 4x5 holder should look like?
Hey all
I just bought an epson 4990 off ebay and tried scanning 4x5 negs in a no name brand holder. The holder can carry four 4x5 negs, I'm not sure where I got it but I've had it hanging around...
This is from a group project I did at college in 2008 called Re-visioning Portland. We took old photos from the Portland, ME area and attempted to get into the "photographers shoes" so to speak. It...
This is a shot taken from the Edge of the water at Willard Park in Rhode Island. This was one of the first 4x5's I took with my new Wista DX and Schneider 90mm SA.
Thanks Vaughn I think that shot was my best of the entire trip. A great many of my shots might come off as "touristy" but this was my first visit to DV and as you say everything looked spectacular to...
Thanks Riverman, I will have more tomorrow. I just got back from the ER so I just haven't been feeling it today.
Oh and I realize these are pretty quick and dirty scans, I haven't had a chance to...
Hello everyone
Some of you may know of my trip this past January to Death Valley. My nephew and I spent 9 days sleeping out of an SUV visiting various sites in DV. Our trip took us from Mt. Perry,...
Richard K,
It's nice to hear you made it ok, I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with the flu. I had my own problems in Death Valley, 2nd day I sprained my ankle and I still haven't fully...
Ah yes well I shot mine at 320 so I guess that development time wouldn't work for me. Or is it that you just shoot it at 320 and then develop as 160?
Great info, I'll do some testing before I dive into the important stuff as stated. I was hoping to get this development done this friday but I don't think I'll be able to get any HC-110 before then....
Thank you Graves, I realize it's all about preference and experience. However I've only been doing 4x5 gung ho for about 4 months. There are a lot of developers and films I'm not experienced at all...
ya I looked up dilution B and it's like 5 minute development, I've never really done anything that quick but maybe I can try it out. I have been going the Ansel route lately with my switch to tray...
I used trix 320 for my DV trip because the only other thing hunts had was Tmax 100 and figured the ISO would be too low. And I had heard trix is great stuff, I've personally never used it. I was...
Rich we did not make it to racetrack or eureka dunes like i had hoped. The gas station at scottys castle has been closed a long time so the nearest place to get gas is Stovepipe Wells about 45...
Richard, I got back from DV on the 15th and WOW what an experience. As far as the rental went I reserved and Jeep Liberty for $320 for 9 days in all. However when I got there they tried to rope me...
I have used both before, I liked the Tmax 100 more because it seems a bit less contrasty than 400 and it is more forgiving with exposures. Usually I just shoot it at it's given ISO just so I don't...
I'm going to go to my local hunts before i get to the bus station tonight and pick up a box of Kodak TMAX 100 because thats the film I'm familiar with. Even under the worst of conditions I seem to...
Great idea Steve I'll do that when I get back from my trip and see what happens. I'll develop the film one sheet at a time if I have to. Always run into bugs like this when I change something so big...
No they weren't I developed my last batch of Kodak Tmax 400 about 3 weeks ago. The Efke is stuff that I've done in the past couple weeks, just developed it tonight. I searched google and it seems...
No there doesn't seem to be. When I was drying I didn't wipe the film, perhaps it got dust on it and it adhered to the film during drying. I didn't wipe my kodak film either and didn't seem to have...
As I stated above I look at all my negs on the light table first before scanning. There are black specs on the film and they don't seem to be physical dust because when I try to brush or blow them...
Thanks unfortunately I don't have much control over darkroom conditions because I rent from a community darkroom studio. Could the dust be getting on there pre or post development? I looked at the...
I developed some of my efke iso 100 film tonight and scanned it with an epson V750. I noticed immediately this weird pattern in the grain, like tiny white tin pricks. This wasn't on my Kodak Tmax 400...
Thanks all, I didn't have time to check in before I developed so i just did it. I did 6 sheets at a time because the lab I rent from was only open for 4 hours tonight and I wanted to scan them before...
I have some Efke PL-M 100 film I'm developing tonight. Many people suggest using hardener in either the stop solution or the fixer. I'm going to be using plain water instead of stop bath seeming...
Ever see that episode of Seinfeld? "You know how to TAKE the reservation you just don't know how to HOLD the reservation." It states in their terms of use that "By making a reservation this does not...
There's an Enterprise rental in Flagstaff as well you can check on rental cars and reserve one online or over the phone. They have unlimited mileage and I found they were cheaper than most other...
Richard, what the rental company doesn't know can't hurt them. As long as you don't bottom out and total the undercarriage (very hard to do in a high clearance SUV) or bang up the outside panels in...
Hey all
Heading to DV this friday. Going to arrive at Vegas around 11am, rent an SUV from enterprise, stock up on food and water at walmart, and then head to DV for a week. Figure I'll hit Dante's...
As others have already stated so aptly you need a good tripod with any camera for reasons of stability. It's hard to make a decision looking at factory specs, you need to go to the camera store and...
Reviving this thread. Just got all my 4x5 gear in order and a bag i can carry it all in. Funny thing I was actually about to give this bag away or throw it out. I bought it a long time ago to carry...
