Returning from current road-trip just in time! Count me in for both shoot and lunch.

msk - Methinks the three seater as shown in post #12 would be ideal for our trips. One seat for your camera, one for my camera, and one for... ME. Unsure if 300-lb loading would be sufficient, and...
Using Manfrotto rectangular plates on all my cameras, yes I've in the past had occurrences of the ballhead plates working loose, but never to the point of worrying about having the camera fall off.
...
Will be there. -Glenn-
Keep in mind that any camera shop I've found in the the DFW area will have VERY minimal supplies of large format equipment. Film at Competitive and Arlington Camera is nowadays about non-existant...
Unfortunately will be out of town :-( -Glenn-
Michael,
If I'm in town the weekend of an outdoor gathering, I'll definitely be there. I would be less inclined to go and pay $100 for an indoor shoot of a courthouse.
And a note about the Tru-View Museum glass... there's no sheen or color to it at all... it cannot be seen unless one literally touches their finger on it.
Mark - you say Tru-View glass is too expensive... but $9.50 a square foot is reasonable?
If you have the means to purchase wholesale and are willing to buy more than you need for just one photo......
I use only Tru-View brand glass in frames, which doesn't have a green cast. If you want the best, look at Tru-View's Museum glass for your frames... quite expensive (to say the least) but you cannot...
A good accessory to make an attempt to find used. New Schneider or Rodenstock center filters cost $500 or more... I believe Heliopan makes one that will cost same price range or more. Used ones are...
Shooting Velvia 50... yes, you'll most likely want to use a center filter, unless you like the vignette look on all your images (which indeed you may). I'm not sure about the gradiant on the center...
Near St. George and spots less frequented:
Kolob Canyon area of Zion NP. Most tourists stay in the main part of Zion... very few visit this northern area which is not part of the "standard" tour....
Frankly I see no problem, or for that matter a more intuitive approach to the front crank... easy enough I thought to figure out without a manual. If you crank the lever the wrong way all ya' gotta...
Thanks for looking. RPippin... assuming question directed at me: Negative developed using DDX. So far only 13"x19" print produced using Harman Gloss FB AI paper. Before running larger, comparison...
First photo post here... hopefully will show image and not page:
Canyonlands area, Southern Utah. Utah Juniper.
Linhof Master Technika / Grandagon-N 75mm f4.5 / FP-4+ film.

Velvia in itself doesn't require any special filters... especially since I gather you are scanning films, and it's easier to tweek colors a bit in PhotoShop than in surmising what...
Gem - As I only shoot things that don't move, loss of speed is rarely an issue. :-)
Subtract 1-stop from your equation of differences... I use graduated neutral density filters which requires...
Exactly the same response from me as J posted.
Polarizer and orange is one of my favorite combos, and depending on scene sometimes a neutral grad added.
I'm a fairly heavy user of Velvia, and stock all three. The only other color film I stock and shoot is Provia 100F and Fuji Tungsten 64. My opinions of the different three Velvias (only by personal...
Honestly I believe you're making a mistake by asking others to decide lens lengths for you. The choice of using wide/normal/telephoto lengths for any landscape, be it Alaska or the tropics, is far...
There is no "best" color film or print paper for landscape photography in general.
Some landscapes shout out for low contrast films... some for high contrast films. In addition to contrast there's...
As I'm a rather heavy user of filters, and quite frequently use multiple filters on an image as it is, I'm loath to include filters that doesn't do much if anything to a set of filters that does do...
Should be easy enough to measure and cutting with a razor knife, but would also suggest to check matboards for true squareness and dimension before cutting. I've noted 32"x40" matboards are not...
Mike, if you finally got that Ebony, you darned sure better bring it! Looking forward to seeing ya'll there....

J - One thing you may look into replacing if wanting to spend a bit to improve your filter system for use with Cokin and other brand square/rectangular filters: Replace the Cokin holder with the Lee...
I would disagree with any suggestion that resin filters are inferior to glass filters. More fragile... yes... better... no. Some of the highest quality filters available are made of optical resin...
I'll be there to assist in any way possible. Will have a 4x5 Linhof Master Technika available for anyone wishing learn about them. -Glenn-
75, 120, 150, 210, 300 covered.
That leaves a 360-T plus 500mm rear... not to mention replacing my 150-N with a 150-S when my ship comes in.
After that suppose that only leaves getting an 8x10...
Unsure of Chinese Sinar-branded lens boards, but I have bought 4 Linhof boards with crests from Hong Kong advertised as "used" but in fact all appeared completely new and completely identical in...
From a heavy user of filters (and a predominantly color film user):
I use a polarizer on most day-time images shot. Not only do they darken skies (if the angle to the sun is at or nearly over...
How I use the 75mm on my Master Technika:
Recessed board used.
Bed kept flat so that the entire rail system (both outer and inner) remains in-line.
Apply some front rise to keep front...
An addition to the above:
Prismacolor also makes gold ink pens. The Premier pens are 0.5mm fine lines. Also tried ink/paint pens made by "DecoColor" but had problems with flow.
Joanna, The brand of archival ink pens I use for signing prints:
Prismacolor "Premier" Fine Line Markers. Comes in sets of assorted colors (what I use... so can choose sig color based on print...
I sign prints on the face with an archival ink pen, and also the mat board with pencil. Reason for choosing to sign image and not simply border or mat... if image is reframed later the sig could be...
Works fine for an "almost there" focus... I wear dime-store +3.5 diopters to get focus real close, but still use a loupe with diopter adjustment for final tuning. This on a 4x5... not an 8x10, but...
Just a few comments, mainly on other comments:
a) A very helpful hint about marking transition lines on the edge of grads... will have to put this to use, although I've never really had too much...
As color hasn't been touched much upon: Definitely need a polarizer and gradiant neutral density, and possibly a warming filter (81B).
For B&W orange and polarizer (depending on shooting angle)...
Suggest taking a look at Nielson frames (metal frames oft used for large prints and gallery works), which can be bought by the inch and assembled (bolted corners) by the user. Also... instead of...
