Why has the building been abandon? Is it contaminated?
It seems like a perfectly useable structure.
Typically, the smaller "on demand" type heaters can not manage with the very cold city water feed during the winter months. Tap water can be as cold as ice from November/December to March.
In...
As I measure things out tonight and made a rough shopping list, I started to consider putting a 2 gallon hot water tank directly below the kitchen sink.
It runs on 110v and I could take the bathroom...
After a rather sh&$ evening, this was the perfect remedy!
Thank you Sergei!
Love it!
:-)
Nice pic Kav.
My dad would have loved the idea you were still shoot with a speed and the stock lens.
Keep 'em coming!
Z!
Bob,
The tank is a concern, the house is fitted with 2x 40 gallon tanks. I will see how the winter session goes and may be forced to swap out one of those tanks for a larger tank. That will mean...
Thank you for all the tips.
Good point about 20g wire, I would have defaulted to 14 as almost all the breakers in the house are 15a.
But I might as well upgrade up to 20a while I am there.
The...
I am laying out the electric wiring for the darkroom,
I have 3x 15amp lines in to the darkroom, plus overhead lights.
Is there any reason why I should consider more than 3x 15amp lines?
I am...
Thank you guys,
Nathan, the negative pressure and back flow was my concern. I have to cut a hole in a very think concrete wall (it is an old building and the wall appears to be at least 1.5 times...
Wclark,
I tend to spend many long nights in the darkroom during the winter months when the sun is down early and the temperature does not invite me outdoors. During the summer months I don't often...
I am starting to look at ventilation in my new darkroom setup.
The easiest way would be to piggy back the exhaust to the dryer vent out of the house.
Are there any solid reasons why this should...
Hi Ari,
I rarely have time to pop in, good to see you are shooting, love the pic.
After Lac Megantic settles down, coffee on the V anytime soon?
Some models have a turret that can be removed by releasing a screw that is right front and center, and the entire unit comes out and a single lens can be used rather than the turret. Others have a 3...

They are great enlargers. You will come to love it.
Is your rig setup as a single turret that is not removeable or can you take the turret out and put in a single plate to use a...
Siamese,
There is the 1200,
and then there are other 4x5 enlargers.
I have never used a Devere, but I have used just about everything else.
but I have never used anything that comes close to...
Fredrick,
Keep your eye on E bay for a heater called a DevTek.
It was made for portable darkrooms and all the wire services and big newspapers used them back in the days of film.
They hold a...
Fredrick,
I use to process C-41 every day this way.
The key was a small aquarium pump to circulate the water in the tub holding the tanks.
Works very well once you get use to it.

Hi Ed,
I have always to shoot 5x8, it looks like a great format.
As Koh mentioned, the 3005 would be the best bet. Until you find one and get up and running, I would test the following as a "hold...
Thanks guys, it has been a long haul.
Will process some 4x5 HP-5 in Acufine shot in the studio to end this darkroom's pages.
Sorry, the 184 has shipped out. Broke my heart to let it go.
After a year of searching for a new home that was in the city, had a basement big enough for a darkroom and office and some type of back yard, I have finally found and purchased a home.
A year or 2 ago a photographer friend passed away. He asked that his darkroom gear did not go to junk.
It took me a long while and a lot of work to slowly sell off, at great discounts, all his gear...

Very nice frame!
I hate it when cops are just being jerks with photographers,
but they were right this time and "demanded" for your own good, they could easily be the ones having to search for...
Fantastic Craig!
Thank you guys, it is a rather large unit, a fraction of the size of my old Topaz, but still rather large.
I have not found any software yet, only an acquire module for PS 8, which I don't have...
I have been offered a Kodak 4050 scanner and all the holders, I really do not know much about this unit.
Does anyone have hands on experience?
Is it worth recovering?
I have a Mac G3 scsi, I would...
Congrats,
she looks like a beauty!

Thanks guys, I shied away from bidding as the seller had no drums and no software.
The scanner sold for $499.00 :-(
Hey Mark,
Are you the same guy that had a ton of great pix years ago (I don't get it anymore so there may still be this year too:)) in the NPPA magazines from region 2?
If one were to purchase a Howtek 4500, that had no software, what would be the best options for a Mac user, or would I be locked into getting a windows machine and running DPL?
Thanks,
Yes I did Fred. Thank you.
They are a little smaller, not as heavy duty, but not nearly as ugly as my boxes. Cheaper than B+H and no shipping! :)
I picked up a few other things too. Thanks for the...
Ok Fred, that just cost me a few bills at the "Candy Store"!
I never knew about this shop, thanks for the link!
Lots of great stuff, glassine negs sleeves by the 100 pack, B+H is by the 1000...
Ari,
I took a look at the Ikea ones today, 2 boxes for 3 bucks,so not very dear, but they don't stack up against what I am using now.
Had I know mine would disappear, I would have filled a shelf.
