You might want to consider having someone (John Ritter?) make a 8X10 adapter board that accepts 4x5 boards. Thats what I did. Its alot easier carrying lens mounted on the 4x5 boards.
I normally have a specific destination in mind when I had out with my camera. But once I get there I set up the camera in a area that interet me and then start hunting, looking at the groundglass...

Jorge,
How accurate do you think it would be with pyro?
I was looking at the Calumet site today and I noticed they are selling the Zone VI Compensating developing timers again. I thought they had quit makeing these. Maybe they saw all the interest in used...
"Hasselblad is evolving, change is good......"
I believe the full quote is " Change is good, you go first...." :)
Actually, if you would take the time to study your photographic history, I believe Ansel Adams went through a period around 1938 when he made extensive use of the Photoshop 'platinum' plug-in. Or was...
"What materials are needed to do this? I realize it is likely labour intensive. "
You would probably be surprised at how much easier 8x10 contact printing is than enlarging. Aside from the normal...
Hefty OneZip 2.5 gallon storage bags. One bag will hold 6 8x10 holders with a little room to spare.

I just moved up from 4x5 to 8x10 this past December. I love 8x10 but I would never suggest spending up to $2500 for a camera to anyone who had never used 8x10 before. As you said "8x10 is a...
>I liked the press release better than the translation. I guess I'll sell my gear and take up alcoholism. Agfa, Kodak iffy, and now Ilford. Dean
This type of thing is why I stopped using Kodak and...
I enjoy having people come up and talk to me while I'm taking a photograph. A couple of months ago I was in a national park with my Agfa 8x10. A 70 year old guy came up to me and started telling me...

I bought one of the Zone VI 8x10 contact printers years ago and have never used anything else for contact printing since then. Its not that the Zone VI contact frames are special, although I...
Or, in still other words: wouldn't it be nice if we all waited 30 minutes before replying to a post, any post, to either complain or to complain about someone complaining, or possibly to complain...
Sam,
I live in the SE section of TN, about 15 minutes outside of Chattanooga, but around 90% of my photographs are taken in the Smokies so I'm in N Carolina several times a month. I'd be very...
A couple of ideas:
(1) Take a short trip, a hike or just go somewhere, but be sure and leave your camera at home. When you get back home think about all the times during the trip/hike/whatever...
Get some large rubber-bands and slip one over each film holder. As you said, the darkslide locks are just disasters waiting to happen. I ruined several exposures when I first started using a LF...
If you are talking about consulting him about what new equipment he would like and where and how to place it then fine. But as far as anyone else redesigning my darkroom, first you would have to drag...
I bought a $5 cooler from Wal-mart. It keeps all my film cool while its sitting in the car and carries everything for short distances. Just wrap your camera in the darkcloth and put it in the cooler...
#2 - What do you use to transport your LF camera, tripod, and "field supplies" on short trips?
Borrow a 8x10 camera and gear for the weekend. Carry it around with you whereever you go. At the end...
Chris,
If you can't find a adapter board that will fit the Ansco, Richard Ritter (http://www.lg4mat.net/) will make one for you. I had him make the adapter board I'm using. I think it cost me...
I had Richard Ritter make me an adapter board for my Ansco 8x10 so that I could use 4x4 boards for it. It cuts down on weight and the space 6x6 boards take up in my camera bag (I believe the Ansco...
I saw the Pyrocat liquid kits on B&S several days ago. The link to the Pyrocat listing is http://bostick-sullivan.com/commerce/aa_41.htm. For some reason its listed on the page you reach by clicking...
The Summitek Cradle and the PF 4x5 negative slowh panel are both open trays divided into partitions for 4x5 (and 8x10) negatives. You simply lay the negative down into the open tray compartment and...
I thought it might at first but I've been using the Summitek Cradle for several months and the negatives are some of the cleanest I've ever developed, no artifacts, scratches, etc. I've never heard...
I've been using a type of slosh panel, a Summitek Cradle, to develop 4x5 negatives for the last few month. I recently moved up to 8x10 and last month I asked Summitek and Photographer's Formulary if...
Always wear nitril gloves, no matter what chemicals your using in the darkroom. When I mix pyro or amidol I wear nitril gloves, googles, and a respirator with vapor barrier cartridges.
I always wear Nitrile gloves when mixing or using pyro. I also wear a respirator when mixing chemicals for pyro. In my opinion, anyone who doesn't at least wear gloves when using ANY darkroom...
I've never been a fan of drilling any LF camera. No matter how you do it, your're probably going to weaken the camera in some way. Personally, if I wanted to save weight, I'd look for a lens with a...
Tom,
If you find a backpack that will fit your Ansco, please post the information and what you think about it. I also use a Ansco/Agfa 8x10 and have been looking for a backpack that it would fit...
Or you could say:
"Painting is a beautiful hobby or a craft (you decide) and one should not be ashamed to admit that through its many mechanical components (the number of brush sizes, styles and...
"It probably sparks up the question what is art? What is fine art?
What is an artist?"
With the same question in mind, what makes a painting art? It certainly isn't the fact that paint and a...
I normally load up my camera and equipment and go to one spot that has caught my attention. Then I set up the camera and start looking around. I usually spend the day working within a area not more...
The Paterson Print Washer tray looks interesting. Let me know how it works out for developing 8x10's.
There are several older post on the board about slosher trays or developing tray inserts. I've been using one of these (Sumitek Cradle) for the last year with 4x5 film and it works great. I moved up...
Chris,
I have two lens for my 8x10, a Nikkor 450 M and a Fuji 300 C 8.5. The Fuji isn't exactly the same one your talking about but I don't see how you can go wrong with a Fuji 300 as long as it...
I ordered 4 boxes of j&c classic 8x10 film yesterday evening. I recieved a email this morning that it had been shipped. Sounds liike they are back in business.
I realize that people on the large format forum are always open to new ideas. But before anyone takes me seriously about the stedicam idea, I was joking. In other words, don't try this at home :)
Actually, I have a stedicam that I use with a Canon GL-1 and I had been thinking about mounting my 8x10 to it. So you think that could be a bad idea?
