I found BookSmart constricting. (I don't know
what B3 is so I assume I did not use it.) I got
around BookSmart's limitations by making each
of my pages a full-bleed JPG. That meant resizing...
FWIW, I used Blurb for my new book,
Double Exposures: Essays in Portraiture,
and I was pleased with the end product
-- 160 pages, 8x10, on premium paper.
I submitted everything in an sRGB space...
Peter Gowland.
I didn't call because I didn't want to intrude.
And I was hoping to see if there are others
out there who know something about the
Gowlandflexes, so we could pool resources
and knowledge about...
July was Large-Format GAS Month, so
I am the new guardian of a whole-plate
Korona and an early Gowlandflex. The
Gowlandflex is a marvel, combining the
dynamics of a Rolleiflex with sheet...
I swear by mine, on my Norma. I have them also in my Rolleiflexes. Essential.

I don't know about the film but Adox and Maco are trying to resurrect the Agfa paper works. Robert Vonk, of Fotohuis in the Netherlands, confirmed this on the APUG list: "There are negotiations...
I ported this thread over to APUG and provoked an interesting response. Here's the link to the APUG thread:

Simon Galley, an Ilford/Harman director, has mentioned over on APUG that the company will be making up orders for various sheet film sizes next month. It was originally billed as an opportunity to...
If you have an upright print washer, just stick the negatives in it -- that's what I do with the 5x7s I process in the 3006. Much easier than washing in the tanks and the negatives won't mind a bit....
FWIW, I've found that if I can get the image close enough to final in the initial scan, I can work easily in 8-bit without compromising image quality. If you're scanning LF negatives you are already...
Absolutely right on both counts! :-)
I don't bother -- I just let mine spin on and on in the same direction. It might make a difference in theory to the 2500-series tanks (which hold the 4x5s on spiral reels) but I've done it both ways...
I have three: a "Color by Beseler" base, an Omega "Chromega" base, and a Unicolor "Uniroller" base. Of the three, the Beseler is the best for the 3000-series tanks, with the Omega a close second. ...
Frank, I have a 5x7 Norma with the older behind-the-lens shutter mounted on it. (<-- see avatar) I know there is an interlock that connects to the rear standard, that closes up the shutter when you...
I am amazed that no one appears to have addressed this question before in the LF Forum archives.
I use wood film holders in 4x5 and 5x7. Why? I like the way they feel and handle.
I saw a...
I have an early (serial no. 109605) uncoated 7-inch f/4.5 Heliar set in a barrel and mounted on a 3x4 Graflex D lensboard. Here's a scan from a photo shot with the lens:

Really? I went from the 3200 to the 4990 and saw no improvement in image quality whatsoever. The upgrade was a BIG improvement because of the 4990's 8x10 inch scanning area for negatives and...
Frank! I have one word for you:

I'm with David Goldfarb on this one: German folders rule. I go for the Balda Super Baldax -- it's a little bigger than the Perkeo but has a coupled rangefinder, much faster to shoot that way. I...
Sitting in an airport departure gate, I loaded a roll of film into my Rolleiflex balanced on my lap. A couple in their 80s watched intently across from me. Once I closed the back, he asked: "Is...
Even a ten-inch Petzval will vignette at 5x7 -- at least mine does. I shoot a ten-inch Hermagis Portrait Lens (see my avatar!), a Petzval design, stopped down to f/10. Sanders.
Alas. Now I know why the shutter doesn't work. The shutter has been removed from the casing. So, it is effectively a barrel lens now.
I did call Carol this afternoon and she seemed quite...
I just received an early 9.5" Goerz Dagor set in an Optimo shutter. The lens optics look clear -- that's the good news. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to cock and fire the Optimo...
It doesn't have to be that hard. Go check out www.jalbum.net -- it is a ridiculously easy to use web photo site generator, with dozens of "skins" by which you can customize the look and structure of...
Frank, greetings. :-)
It's not so simple as the preceding posts suggest. The pivot point is everything -- you can't simply turn the camera and shoot and expect the two frames to connect well. ...
From last week's shoot. In 5x7 through a 30cm Heliar.
I shoot both 5x7 and 4x5. I've been using an Omega D2 enlarger for the 4x5s and contact-printing the 5x7s. But I just bought an older Eastman 5x7 Model E Autofocus Enlarger. Apart from giving me...
Tom, I second Phong's observations. The new site is impressive but I found the old one much easier and faster to browse. Sanders.
Tim, greetings.
I think this thread goes back to the question of how Colbert created the work, or if he did. Obviously, he did not photograph the images of himself swimming with whales or...

"Sort of sets a new benchmark." Gosh, I sure hope not.
After wondering whether I was the only curmudgeon who finds Colbert's work disturbing in its excess and vanity, I went online and found most...
Tim, greetings.
I am often wrong. Look at me! I'm stuck in film, in silver gelatin, in black and white. A concatenation of poor choices! HOWEVER, I think you should be just a bit more open in...
It's an interesting but worn debate.
I agree wtih Clay that it's either troubling or amusing that this medium already has a commonly-accepted name -- inkjet print -- but people keep trying to find...
Clay, "deliberately vague" is being charitable. They are inkjet prints. Fancy inkjet prints, but inkjet prints all the same. All the mumbo-jumbo about "encaustic process" is just the latest...

Oh well that explains it. Perpetuators of old wives' tales, thriving on superstition as always.
