Thanks Peter.

"Make a duplicate of the background layer. Select it. Now look at the color channels individually."
Is this looking at the histograms in Levels, or the black and white R,G,B...
Bob,
Can you tell me what you mean by the line highlighted in blue?
Also, can you show a screen shot of what the curve in red might look like.
I bought CS4

This fella has a special trick for nikon scanners that isn't required for my V700.
Pete
I'm just rushing at the moment so forgive me if my answer doesn't address your problem. These pics are running through the steps described. The histogram looks poor on the 3rd image but when scan is...
You need to
1) Preview with no individual frames selected
2) select as much of the interframe film base as you can and select "Lock Exposure" then Preview again
3) Now you can select "Lock Film...
Could you go through this again, Peter? Take a photo of the IT8 target then put the negative on the scanner and invert with the scanner software (?)......
Oh, I think I got my answer here . Would...
Yes, that would be great. It's always good to get some insider info. Perhaps you've some bear spray we could borrow? :D We bought some whilst in Yellowstone but gave it to a guy in a climbing store...
Thanks again chaps. I was fairly familiar with the Lightroom 3 demo and some of the Elements versions, and Capture NX2 is a very versatile PP program with its own version of Layers so I should be...
Somehow I managed to miss these two posts the other day. Thanks for them. It's looking like I ought to consider Photoshop. The trouble is I'm so out of touch with that side of digital I don't even...
Well, it's perhaps a slight improvement, certainly in terms of time, but it's still not perfect. :( I've posted it here
Any input welcome. :)

I thought I'd describe how I am, as a relative novice, scanning at the moment. I described my Levels technique here. Amongst the drawbacks to that method are :
1) There are often no black,white...
Thanks for that Bob. I can only find it in italian. I haven't got photoshop so I don't want to subscribe just yet to kelby's site but it looks good so I've booked marked it just in case Santa brings...
Thanks Marc. We're considering it for either next year or 2013.
Pete
This is interesting Peter. I don't have Photoshop but I'm considering purchasing if I feel I can get my moneys worth from it (I'm using Nikon's Capture NX2 presently). I'm particularly interested in...
I wonder if this is similar to that used in the Leica M9.
I wonder why they don't put that sensor in a film scanner with software that perfectly converts their film types (regualr batch code updates...
I've been a few times to this area ice climbing in winter. What would be a good time of year for trekking without mosquitos or snow?
Pete
Could you say more about "Hue Errors". It's not a term I've met before although I suspect it relates to the proportion of RGB for each grey of the grey scale. How do you measure it and how would you...
No worries. There's surprisingly little stuff on the net about scanning. Watch this space though, I think I've worked out something much much quicker and more reliable with Epson scan.
Pete
This is typical of what I seem to be getting with my new workflow and I suspect I'm not going to be able to improve on it. I've a test film coming back next week and I'll see how the results are with...
Is this a new problem you're experiencing i.e. were you not experiencing problems previously? The uncorrected scan has clipped rgb channels so you won't be able to balance things very well. Have you...
Perhaps clicking a mid grey if available:

Contrast and colour saturation:

All looks ok until I bring up the pro scan. If I alter the colour to get the Tshirt top left looking...
Hi. I'm Pete. I contribute to a couple of forums on the net but thought I'd try here as there must be some talent here when it comes to C41 Colour Neg workflow. I like to use my scanner (Epson V700)...
