Re: Schneider super angulon F/8 75mm

    Hi Peter

My experience with the older shutters is that the Synchro Compurs need too much servicing - the Seikos ( eg in Mamiya Press lenses ) are far better and the Copals are a quantum leap...

Re: Schneider lens with Linhof logo

These forums are not supposed to be for commercial advertising, so I'm sure it would help if Bob was not posting replies that actually read like advertisements ?

Re: Schneider lens with Linhof logo

We are now getting into a problem of a commercial bias affecting reality - exactly what was never intended on this website and why it is supposed to be closed to dealers........so at least if Bob...
  4. Re: toyo recessed board: going from 0 to 1...

Good point from Robert - quality holesaws ( which machine shops have ) fit onto a central drillbit and there's no problem - you just secure the blank lensboard - but with a big hole already there you...

    Re: Wide Angle Questions?

Gather that Michael is going to 4 x 5 tops - so a 110 XL is likely to be unnecessarily heavy - more shift than needed. A Nikon 105 is rated as a 6 x 9 lens but covers 4 X 5 - just not a lot of shift...
  6. Re: How do I attached my Mamiya 645 to a 4x5?

Hi Erie an innovation to be explored further....will have to dissmember an RB now to see exactly how you did it....then glue to a Toyo lensboard. Epoxy comes in black and grey - or you can paint...

Re: Schneider super angulon F/8 75mm

Comment - Copal shutters are way better than Synchro Compur. And if going to use a few Technika boards, why not make your own ? Not difficult.

    Re: Wide Angle Questions?

    For brightness - current and future - a progression might be 150 then 80 XL then a Nikon 105 W cheap -( even new at B & H ) then a Nikon 65 F 4....makes wide angle shooting really pleasant. Then a...
  9. Re: Sinar F2 - Graflex 23 RFH - Which W/A lens suited for the 'coverage' task

By the way...there were small Super Angulon 65 and 58 lenses - even 47 mm ! - badged Technika and they are 6 x 9 lenses. Even before Multi coating appeared. All sharp, of course.
  10. Re: Sinar F2 - Graflex 23 RFH - Which W/A lens suited for the 'coverage' task

That's a great use of a dead roll of film and you can re-use it likewise. just make small marks in different places each time,
For more fun - try the Nikon 65 F 4....very bright.
    Or to save cash -...
  11. Re: Mounting a Mamiya press lens on a lensboard how

    Big question - Darcy

what is the 4 x 5 model ? May not focus a 50 mm lens on a flat, though if you do it my way the helical will move the lens back further....though a remount could get it further...
  12. Re: Mounting a Mamiya press lens on a lensboard how

Some interesting solutions here - especially Daniel's - but as long as you don't mind cutting big holes then the best way is to make a large hole in your lensboard - various ways - and then drop the...

Re: Schneider lens with Linhof logo

    Hi Peter

There has been much debate here about the merits of the Linhof testing of lenses. Do you know for sure ....being closer to the factory ? My understanding ( and an old Linhof brochure...

Re: Schneider lens with Linhof logo

Good comment Ian..........am amazed Bob S hasn't encountered this. Well known even in New Zealand. Rodenstock must have got their resins wrong, but probably corrected themselves before the Multi...

    Re: Rotelar or Tele-Arton ?

Know what you mean, Domenico - kind of a genuine/ true colour gradation - probably with less contrast....by design. Contrast and resolution are, after all, very different. That will have been a...

    Re: Rotelar or Tele-Arton ?

    Ole

Gather the 270 Rotelar has less image circle ? Think it was designed for press cameras, with shift unnecessary. Have one in good cond and never used it. The Tele artons do have a nice quality...
  17. Re: toyo recessed board: going from 0 to 1...

Even in USA, most people won't be near a Samy's and unless they have laser cutters or a drill press, an ordinary machine shop can do it better..... and no doubt for less. But DIY is easy enough. You...
  18. Re: How do I attached my Mamiya 645 to a 4x5?

An especial congrats to Erie for making a trigger device to release the RB lens shutters.
Had given up on the idea myself - of remounting those lenses - because of the difficulty of cocking and...
  19. Re: What are typical minimal usable bellows extensions?

Many cameras would handle Joanna's 72 mm without even a recessed board. Makers mainly assume that a 65 will have a recessed board, I think. Ole's 2 cameras could handle a Rodenstock 35mm grandagon (...
  20. Re: What are typical minimal usable bellows extensions?

    Ole

The Carbon infinity sounds classy and the plate camera expensive to operate ? I could be stingy, but my theory is to shoot the same picture over and over on a 6 x 12 220 rollback. Great...

    Re: F***ing Wide Open!

An interesting experience from Tim - have had a technician re-do a Pentax 67 600 F4 -took ages -charged plenty - and got an element reversed!.....soft lens anyway. interesting tech info from Paul....
  22. Re: What are typical minimal usable bellows extensions?

    Hi Ole

That's highly interesting.....I was under the illusion that only a Sinar F would get to 30 or below without radical custom jobs - similar to what I've done on a simple old Linhof mono (...
  23. Re: 4X5 TOYO VIEW G, Wista M450, or CAMBO SCIIRS

Most LF cameras incl Toyo, Cambo , Sinar have the graflok back - taking dark slides and nearly any rollback ( try the quality Linhof 6 x 9 ers ). The Wista and Arca will too.
  24. Re: 4X5 TOYO VIEW G, Wista M450, or CAMBO SCIIRS

As Ralph is showing with his Toyo 45 Field, the sytem is very modular and interchangeable - even from his Field to a Mono like 45 G ( your best choice - especially for accessories ) and even a...
  25. Re: How do I attached my Mamiya 645 to a 4x5?

Very Interesting !..........though the lateral shift option will usually be unnecessary.

And that Sinar F-2 would do it all better - shiftwise.

Note that adapter will fit into any Grafflok back...
  26. Re: How do I attached my Mamiya 645 to a 4x5?

It's very easy to combine formats - medium to large - and the MF camera on the back of a view camera is much less complicated than using a ground glass, hood etc. The format size is smaller - only...

    Re: F***ing Wide Open!

Realised after that while the width of the lens could be a factor, especially since you are shooting through more of it when wide open, the length of the lens encourages unsharpness once you have...

    Re: Linhof serial number

No .... and for better movement/rise on these things....just cut the top out of the camera.

Probably kills the resale value but don't let that stand in the way of art. And if you're only using...

  30. Re: toyo recessed board: going from 0 to 1...

Note holesaws come as flexible sets for wood ( often budget DIY ) or as solid critters to cut most things. My quality set is Sutton - think that's American.
  31. Re: toyo recessed board: going from 0 to 1...

    Mat Rippo
The dremmel looks nice for finishing the hole or even widening, but for what you want the holesaw is the best way to do most of it. But then you need a drillpress. I have a full set of...

Re: Schneider lens with Linhof logo

no, this is definitely the 58 Super by Schneider - for 6 x 9. Though the other 53 mm is a revelation. There seems to be a regular problem with Rodenstock agent Bob Salomon undermining the other...

    Re: F***ing Wide Open!

  34. Re: toyo recessed board: going from 0 to 1...

  36. Re: Is an Arca 6x9 worth it in the digital age?

As Ole was saying - choices of backs in LF but more and cheaper ones for standard 4 x 5 or 'Graflok' . As Neil gently points out - this is the future proof interchangeable way to go. Extending an...
  37. Re: Is an Arca 6x9 worth it in the digital age?

You have far more future options with 4 x 5 . Many options second hand.
    such as 67 - 69 - 6 x 12 roll backs. Digital backs are expensive now and mostly capture 6 x 4.5....so they don't even give...

Re: Schneider lens with Linhof logo

That's probably an old 58 Super Angulon ( I've got one too ) which is really a 6 x 9 lens. Certainly wouldn't expect to shift it on 4 x 5 and 6 x 12 landscape, unshifted, might be a good use. It is...
  40. Poll: Re: Poll: How many lenses in your 4x5 field kit?

How does the Nikon 120 AM Macro lens- with ED glass- perform on landscape ? Any visible difference ( it must be corrected for close focus ). Anyone else compared ?
