Yup, and the *only* way to make it go away is to not stand for it. When someone tries to violate your rights by asking for ID, or your film, or for you to leave public property politely (but firmly)...
Why not just say no? Seriously. If it really upsets you (and it would me, in this case) refuse to comply. The worst that can happen is that you're refused entrance. If enough people stop meekly...
I commute into town from Marin everyday by motorcycle, traffic here really isn't bad at all. Just stay away from the approaches to the Bay Bridge during rush hour and it's all good.
I also second...
Hey, I'm 38 and you can bet there'd be some bedroom drama if my wife deleted my save game file from my PSP...
Oh, and make some noise when you get here. Maybe you could scare a few of us out of hiding and into a brewpub...
Steve/Ted,
These all sound great. I'm sure I'd be interested in: the shooting workshop, the printing workshop and the portrain/figure with LF workshop. I'd also like to see an lf scanning workshop...
Not a bad way to learn the craft part either. If you can plop your tripod down in the same holes Adams did and wind up with images that compare favorably to his chances are you've gotten pretty good...
Well, I'm just starting to dip my toe in the 4x5 color waters so, if nothing else, I'd be happy to pester you with questions for at least half the conference. ;-)
That's normal for TF-4. It stays in solution once you dilute out 3:1 for working strength. I'd mix it up and see how long it takes to clear a piece of film.
I mixed up some from 18mos old stock...
Yup, mine arrived this week. Single sheet, pressure plate, in stock.
Dean
Freestyle seems to have them in stock.
Move the back standard all the way forward, you can always rack the front standard out to then make focus at infinity.
I've had good experiences with both of them, just like everyone else it seems. I bought by Canham 8x10 woodfield and a Nikkor 450mm from Jim at the Monterey View Camera conference and a 90mm Nikkor...
It depends. I moved to SF a few years ago, but IIRC each night class was $400 or so. Not cheap, but you got all the darkroom access you could use after 5pm during the week and all day on the...
You folks should go wander by NESOP (The New England School of Photography). There's a small but very talented and passionate group of LF photographers that's built around Nick Johnson, one of the...
No trains when I was in there last month. They did want $1700 or something for a Beseler 45 MCRX though...
Michael,
Don't get me wrong, I'm also very pleased that Schneider is making ULF specific lenses and I'm absolutely certain that there are ULF photographers out there for whom the 550XXL is the...
It's worth mentioning that at the prices listed on Badger's site for both lenses ($1425 for the Fuji and $5495 for the 550XXL) the Scheider is almost 4x as expensive. The price difference...
These guys might have what you're looking for.
Ilford and Ilford photo are now different companies. www.ilford.com doesn't have any B&W info on it because that company doesn't sell any B&W products. The B&W photo business is now owned by Harman...
Yes, it's okay to use the same fixer for both sets of prints. Ideally though, you should be two-bath fixing all of your prints. *Especially* the ones you're going to tone. Selenium is great for...
Speaking of measuring small quantities of liquids...
I picked up a pack of 500, disposable, graduated, 3ml pipets from the folks at Online Science Mall a month or two ago for $30. Great for...
How are you guys getting by with such low wattages? I'm using a 150W R40 bulb about 3ft above my print surface and my times are ~30s for Azo gr2 and more like 60-90s for gr3.
The whole "ID copied" thing confuses me. Who's doing the copying? Why did you produce ID? You *do* have to tell a cop who asks what your name is. You do not have to carry, nor do you have to...
First off, IANAL, nor do I play one on TV...
Go get a copy of the City's municipal code. That's where you'll find whtat the deal with with tripods and public property. Outside of tripod laws, if...
It's actually 3 links.

You'll find lots of good info here and I also encourage you to check out APUG for info.
Personally, all of my LF shooting right now is 8x10 on FP4+ and TMY developed in Pyrocat-HD and contact...
Well, a 2lb head on a 3.5lb tripod makes 5.5lbs. A 2lb head on a 6lb tripod is 8lbs. So, that $400 saves 2.5 lbs which is the whole weight of your camera.
I second the recommendation of calling Jim at Midwest and talking to him about what you want. Their advertised prices are pretty good and he seems to usually sell stuff for below what's printed (I...
I don't know if it's available where you are, but I've got the Dell 2005FPW on my desk at work and I'm pretty happy with it (although my day job has nothing to do with image manipulation). The LCD...
The thing I don't get about the "can't photograph the Golden Gate Bridge" rumor is: How would you stop someone? It's a bloody big hunk of steel and you can see it for miles and miles.
Agreed. Serious congratulations and thanks are in order. I don't (yet) shoot anything bigger than 8x10, but I know I'd like to try 7x17 one of these days and I primarily use TMY in 8x10. Reading...
Folks,
Michael Smith announced the Azo replacement over in the Azo forum a little while ago. His post is here
There's a bunch of stuff in the archives about the Microteks and about Epsons and Canons as well. There's also a scanner comparison article on the front page.
FWIW, I've exchanged email with Jim a couple of times about the new site. He's thrilled to have specific, constructive feedback from folks and they seem to be acting on it. The site rendered much...
Actually, every time I see that certain camera maker back East mentioned he's generally vilified for his crappy business practices.
Managing customer expectations is every bit as much an important...
Thanks for all the replies!
I've currently got my Pro-Trekker full of an 8x10, 2 lenses, a meter, a loupe, a few filters and 4 holders that just barely fit. I'm heading off to a workshop next...
Cutting them some slack on shipping because of moving is fine, but charging the CC before delivering the goods is a big time no-no.
Why should she be paying Avedon's estate a royalty, becuase they're large format photos against a white background? Should the rest of us be paying Adams' estate everytime we photograph Halfdome? ...
