Make sure you can return the Wisner if it is defective. If working properly, it is a very good little camera. The tech field is a waste of money and weight. It doesn't do anything that can't be done...

Keep your hands out of the developer. Repeated exposure may cause severe splitting of the flesh. I use one surgical glove. For drying, I put two wooden clothespins on a wire coathanger, hung on the...
I use a 210 Schneider XL as a standard lens for 5x7. I like it for portraits too, even though most photographers would go for something longer, such as a 240. The Rodenstock apo sironar s lenses are...
I just came across this old thread and thought it should be updated. It is July 2010. I am still stocking & selling Ebony cameras in Chelsea, NYC. We no longer have much used equipment, and the size...
Bruce's (my) Field Camera Store is at http://stores.ebay.com/brucesfieldcamerastore. We used to carry a full line of Schneider & Rodenstock lenses and numerous brands of cameras, as well as holders,...
55, 75, 90, 135, 150, 180, 210, 240, 300, but I could live without the 135, 180 and 300.
Though usable as an all purpose lens the G Claron (G stands for graphic arts, I think) is a copy lens, and best used for that purpose.
My camera is heavy, so anywhere on the globe would be near home. Probably a high rooftop in Manhattan.
The best budget 5x7 is Osaka. Osaka is the slightly better camera made by Tachihara. I have a new one in my store, Bruce's Field Camera Store. I have used an Osaka 5x7 myself for a winter, and report...
It can be done in trays after dark with just window shades.
8x10 is the better format because you can use contact prints. 4x5 contacts do not have the same feel. 5x7 a little bit, but not enough. I shoot all 3, but only 8x10 or larger contacts really please...
They are the 2 best possible choices. There are differences. The Rodenstocks appear sharper. If your primary concern is sharpness get a Rodenstock. The image from the Schneiders is very sharp too,...
Angel's wings, people holding frames around themselves, pink & blue rocks water & sky.
No problem, you can even get an 8x10 under that weight. If you want a 4x5 the lightest high quality cameras is an Ebony RW45 in mahogany. With an apo sironar s 135 or 150 lens and a carbon fiber...
After trying out and then selling at least a dozen 8x10 cameras, I know that there is no sure answer. Everyone's requirements are different. The Deardorff is a good camera, but it wobbles on the...
I love 5x7 but believe that if Kodak wants to cut down on sheet films, 5x7 will be the first to go because it is less used than the other sizes. So I think you should keep at least one other camera.
Ebony SV810UE. How do you add the picture?
They were the same, except for the name on them. Those and Lisco were all made by the same company on the same machine. Sometimes the dark slides were thicker on Fidelity, and Lisco tended to have...
T Max 100 is a film you try to avoid because it does not have the tonal range of Tri-X. I would only use it for 8x10 or bigger enlargements from 35mm negatives. For sheet film, Tri-X is the one to...
Tri-X 400
I sold my last ULF, an 11x14 Ebony, when I was about 65 or 66. I have also had Wisners up to 16x20 as a sexagenarian. I have a bad back and always worried about throwing it out putting the camera on...
Great lens. Best wide open or close to it. Sorry I sold mine.
If you get a monorail, the best buy might be a Plaubel Peco Jr. They turn up on Ebay once in a while and go for about $400. Plaubel is still in business. I believe they were bought by Horseman. The...
If the lens is heavy you can mount it more safely with nuts and bolts.
When you do it make sure the lens is safe at that angle. Too loose a lens lock can dump the lens on the ground when you change the camera to it's side.
The originals were made by Wisner and he used polyurethane for some of his bellows.
As Steve said, an Ebony RW45 is the "upscale" choice. It is a great beginners camera, light and easy to use. Unfortunately with the drop of the $ it has gotten close to $1900 or so for a new one. You...
If it is not too heavy for you, take the 810. Ansel had a mule? I thought he drove a Cadillac.
If you do need work done contact Alan Brubaker. awbent@filmholders.com He is in southern CA.
I just happened upon the guide to 11x14 cameras. It mentioned Wisner and Canham as the current suppliers of this format. To update, Wisner is semi retired, and not as far as I know, taking new...
Yup again. I never understood why the customers in this store make such a fuss about levels. You level with the lines on the screen.
Toning can be more than silenium or sepia. I used to tone selectively, with a brush. That makes using more than one toner on a print possible. There was or is a warm toned B&W paper by Oriental...
Got too old and lazy to go to the beach, even without a camera. Taking an 8x10 is a great idea though, if you can do it. 12x20 even better. David: Excellent picture of the driftwood.
Mostly new, but I have gotten some large format lenses used. I buy them at my camera store, Bruce's Field Camera Store. This is not an ad though. I rarely have any used lenses in stock any more. I...
How about a Voightlander Bessa III, a 6x7 rangefinder? I have not used one so I can't recommend it, but am thinking about the possibility of getting one.
