Took the words from my mouth. Hwy 1 is, yes, the longest way, but it's also the best. Just cruise over to Santa Monica and then Hwy 1 and up the coast. 395 is no slouch though.

There's a fine line between 'discussion' and 'annoying'.
I finally figured it out. I had opened the shutter from the aperture side, and never open the shutter timer ring and metal retainer near where the front element is. Once I opened that to expose the...
Thanks ic-racer. I ordered a new aperture blade from Bill Rogers (very helpful, thank you!) and got the new blade installed. I have everything lined up, but just can't seem to get the shutter and...
I like the polarizer and #29 Deep red. It's maybe 5 stops light loss. I compose with no filters. Then to meter, I look through the polarizer and turn it to wher I think it looks good, put the #29 on...
And, (at least I do) store each holder in a ziplock bag. And then put all the ziplock bags in a big ziplock bag. Return after use. Helps a lot...
+1 same experience here. You don't always get customer service like this anymore.
Full extension on the 45-N1, my 450C focused to about (didn't measure, just an estimate) 8-feet. I recall the shot, so I'll go measure it if you are interested.
If you can drive to the East Bay, Action Photo in Concord does it in house, sometimes same day even. I think I pay about $2.50/sheet or so, maybe a little less or more.
I've been up there several times and my wife went to school up there for a bit. We also have friends in the area, so when we go, we just follow them out on hikes. It's pretty easy to get "out there"...
Try Action Photo in Concord on Clayton Rd.
I use the Toyo 3.6 loupe and honestly wish for a little more magnification. I haven't used one, but imagine the 6x Silvestri tilting loupe is about perfect. It's my next purchase for sure.
I don't know, just figured it could fog like any other film. Thank you all for the responses. I fell better now...
The development process? It's a 10 minute drive from my house.
So, sitting on my shelf for a month or two at room temperature after being exposed isn't going to affect the exposure?
Sorry if this has been answered (and I'm sure it has but I couldn't find it)...
I sometimes can't get to the lab for weeks at a time. Is there a guideline about how long film can sit around after...
Yep, just 7 hours down the road  I'll make that my first stop though. Thank you.
Can I use any ol' Copal #1 shutter if I can find an extra, or are there variations in the mounts/depth/thickness, etc.?
On the Copal #1 shutter of my Fujinon 250/6.3, an aperture blade came loose when I stopped the lens down to f/64. I've been using it for over a year and it's been ok so far, just not stopped down so...
The Maxwell is universal, but you need to change the pads on the Chamonix to get it to fit snugly. It's not hard to do. Or, you could just pull out the fresnel altogether. The Maxwell is great...
Don't swing and tilt reduce DOF in the process? I'm not sure you'd be too much better off in this case. Perhaps just suck it up and stop down more. Diffraction never killed anyone. You'll probably...
I'm in Lafayette. I use Action Photo in Concord. They do E6 and C41 up to 4x5. I don't believe they do 8x10's though. They generally have stuff back same day or within one day, open Saturday...
If there's a place, this would be it... Have any of you machinists out there tried purchasing raw optical glass from say, Edmunds, and machined the frame to build a compound lens? Or, how about using...
Gamma in SF is probably the only lab that could handle that. Your other option would be to call RayKo in SF and see if you can hire one of their instructors or artists to process it per consultation....
I got the Velvia target from Wolf Faust, and he is very knowledgable and helpful, and the prices are very good.
??? Do it all the time...
Anyway, had the 410 for only a year, but so far so solid. We'll see. You have me worried now.
Fortunately in the Bay Area there is still Action Photo in Concord who will do E6 and C41.
Nope, works very very well. Much brighter and easier to focus.
Is it cliche to define what is cliche? I mean, it's been done so many times before...
Nah. In my work, I often have to point range finders and speed detectors in public areas, and only once has anyone ever said anything. They called the police, and the policeman was basically...
I just thought it was a DOF difference. Say you have available light for a portrait and that gives 1/60 at f/8. That's the same for 35mm and 4x5, right? But, you'd take an 85mm for your 35mm and a...

Would like to try the 38mm XL and Mike1234 got his to cover 4x5 just barely.

Sounds reasonable, but like you, I'm a novice. I'm not sure what type of film you are using, but what I've found in my unscientific try-it-and-let's-see approach is that you don't necessarily get the...
I think I agree with you that in the past they faded. I'm out of touch too, but it seems like Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson should have signed off of their 15-minutes a long time ago, and yet...
I use a homemade card. Basically, I took a piece card stock and cut out a 4x5" hole, and affixed a piece of string coming from just beneath the bottom of the cutout. Then for each lens, I held the...
I'm not an attorney either, but whenever I have nonsense like this come my way, I'm sure to make my first move a notarized certified letter.
Super Angulon XL 47mm is my personal favorite. Just wish I could afford one right now.
Cliches are what got me interested in photography in the first place. The reason I wanted to take pictures is because of how cool I thought the silky long exposure waterfalls looked, and the razor...
Which begs the question for a novice - How long will they last in a home freezer?
