I've just responded to a 17 year old thread................this path leads to madness!!
I have an Ektar 203mm in a Compur 1 shutter, so it wasn't just the No 70 Anastigmat f7.7 that came in that shutter.
Or am I misunderstanding your point?
Thanks John,
Thankfully the shutter blades are all dry, I used only as much as I needed to unstick the shutters in the are of the slow running escapement, and I'm hoping they will continue...
Thanks Steve and Bob, I'm hoping that the movement which the silicone has made possible, will clean the surfaces through usage. I hasten to add that I know only a little of the inner workings of...
Thanks Mike for this contact.
The reason I tried silicone spray (with substantial success) was because I had three shutters which needed attention. That would have been a fair sized bill for all...
I thought I would leave this information here, which has worked well for me this year.
I had three synchro compur shutters which were stuck. I removed the lens and carefully sprayed either side...
I found myself preferring the Schneider Xenar 135mm f4.7
I did have the feeling that the focusing was better on this lens, but it just might have been that the tessar was up to the job!
"The nice thing about having standards, is that there are so many from which to choose".
Thanks everyone for all the help.
Geoff
Thanks Bob
Ah! Thanks Bob,
I see a cable release at the front so the one inside is an additional one. Although, having said that, I can't see one on the back of the shutter (I'm looking at a picture so...
I have a 240mm G Claron which came already set up, complete with spacers, in a Copal No1 Press shutter, both of which are in a nice condition.
I also have a 210mm G Claron (also nice) which is in...
Thanks for this, it certainly not "crap" as you term it, and it does give a good indication of the excellent resolution of the lens, even on the internet. The photograph itself looks a nice piece of...
Thanks very much for these thoughts. I'm used to using a Hasselblad and have found that I (almost) automatically go to hyperfocal focusing. If I set the hyperfocal distance say for f8, I then turn...
Thanks Jim
I've come across two of these picture before when I've been looking around. I think you may have had your money's worth from your 1972 purchase of the 305mm by now - whatever you paid...
Hi Drew
Do you mean the Nikkor M's, G-Clarons & Fuji A's are even sharper and better apo corrected than any offical apo enlarging lenses you own?
Thanks Jeff, that's worth bearing in mind, someone on another post said that because a lens is computated for close work, it does not follow that it is poor at infinity. Thanks for this info, I'm...
Hi Kevin
A black light sounds like a sky hook here in the UK - sort of Alice in Wonderland!! I'll see what I can locate in the UK, I think I've read your past post on that particuarly set up, but...
Thanks Dan,
I guess 240mm would be considered the start of longer. I've got to clean the Repro yet, it has a little something inside that would be better not being there. At present the front...
Hi Kevin
I became interested in the Repro Claron after reading what Jim Galli had to say about it and the way it "divis up the contrast".
It's in a shutter at present that needs a clean and I'm...
Thanks everyone, and thanks Kevin for your comment about using a G Claron like any other lens, that seems to have encapsulated the whole of the answers.
It was my concern when using hyperfocal...
G Claron lenses are detailed as being capable of infinity focus when stopped down to f22.
When taking landscape images I almost invariably use forward tilt and a degree of hyperfocal distance...
Thanks Ed, that would be really helpful. I think I have it right, but I'm not 100% sure and it would be such a pity if I had it like that for years! If it's not trouble and you do, I'll let Kevin...
Thanks Kevin, that will be great. It will be so reassuring to know if I have got it right, it won't be a mistake I make again, I'll be more observant next time.
Yes, that's it Kevin. At present I have assembled the group so that the washer with a raised edge lip facing toward the rear of the front element so that it cups the rear of the front element. The...
The help here has been fantastic, it's my first post on this site and the response has been great. Thanks everyone.
Thanks Ed, the idea of centering instead of spacing certainly assuages a few of my concerns, and I can see how I've been thinking wrongly now. Kevin has offered to open his 240mm next week and see...
Thanks Tony ;=) I might have expected that from someone with three legs!
Hi Kevin
Thanks so much your kindness. I wonder if you would just look to see if I have it right by opening yours, it would certainly put my mind at rest. I could see me using this wrongly for the...
Thanks for this diagram, this should really have been the last word on the layout, but unfortunately there are no washers detailed. It's a little bit frustrating.
In fact, the casing that it...
Hi Ed
Yes it is the 6-4 plasmat type and I did look around for diagrams, but with no luck. I see that IC Racer has found a diagram that I did look at, but unfortunately there are not washer details...
I'm slightly reluctant to ask this question as I ought to know better.
I have dismantled my 240mm G Claron for cleaning, but on reassembling the lens I found that one of the spacers within the lens...
Hi Michael,
So, is this why some G Clarons (circa 1986) in shutter have shims, to alter the spacing? I suppose these are being spaced in line with the 1990's spacings made by Schneider.
This is my first post on this forum and I suspect it's too late to be of any use.
I'm from Gt Britain and spent 10 days in Toronto following my son's wedding. I was able to walk for 8 to 9 hours...
