I guess it's a barrel for enlargers as Richard said. I'll just have to suck eggs and mount them into a...

EBay has a few copal 3s
Attached some pics
You can see it underneath the aperture indicator mark/circle between the flange and barrel...
Quite the opposite. The collodion is super watery. I noticed when mixing it the merck collodion is a lot more of a watery consistency than the scharlau collodion I usually get.
I can only get...
Thankyou Richard. That was what I had thought. Is this a common thing for people to get caught out with?

The slot looks very specifically machined behind the aperture ring and the seller told me it is for filters. Which I can't see any other evidence of online either. Maybe it's a once off.

Removing the lens board makes no difference. The only thing I think would work is if I reverse the elements and have the barrel mounted on the inside of the bellows. Maybe. In any case, I've ordered...
Nah there is no difference. The seller told me it's for filters. May need a copal 3 and get rid of the barrel

I bought this lens a few years ago from a reputable seller on these boards and It came with an issue I have never been able to rectify.
There appears to be some kind of Waterhouse slot, for a...
What on earth has happened here?
This is a fresh batch of collodion, mixed last night. Old Reliable sans ether.
I assume this Is something to do with the collodion itself, perhaps it has not set...
Most the plates I've shot I've burnished prior to varnishing. Just a piece of cotton wool polished over the dried and heated silver. Many plates I've had come up brilliant actual silver like...
I have made successful exposures up to 15 minutes. I think the longest I've made from memory was 21 mins. On a cold, foggy morning.
Although I use ether-less Old Reliable using denatured ethanol...
If you want my honest opinion, although the forum does have lots of good info the interface is very dry and uninviting. How you fix that, I don't know. But message boards should be appear vibrant and...
Over half the issues in this thread could be rectified/avoided if people just started doing test exposure plates first.
Every manual should be prefaced with this.
Thanks Maris. Been wanting to recreate something similar to the one I sent you a few years ago. Hope you are well.
Never mind
8x10 black glass ambrotype
I would have used a longer lens to tighten up the composition but my longest lens is too fast and doesn't have Waterhouse stops.

Really nice
Excellent!!!
The longest exposure I've made was something like 16 minutes outside. I didn't have any problems with drying which was a surprise. This was on a wet, mild day. I've done up to 8 minutes on a bright...
Really nice colours and so not what I'm used to seeing this film used for. A little bit psychedelic even with that distorted perspective.
Damn that kinda looks like my neck of the woods almost. Nice !

I can get undenatured ethanol but i require a permit from the Australian Tax Office, I think just because of our insane regulation on drinkable alcohol in general, and I need to keep a record of its...
thanks paul.
i had a litre of old Old Reliable I've been trying to slowly burn through. I try do all my shooting on overcast days if I can help it but yesterday I just needed to get out and blow...
How do y'all deal with shooting wetplate in open sunlight like this? My collodion is 50:50 fresh mixed with reeeeeally old stuff, and is very very contrasty. To try and curb it I tried exposing for...

my boss did actually give me a few pieces of black heart sassafras to play with but the profile was a little heavy for what I want. I could perhaps order some but it is expensive and hard to get...
Barry a huon pine camera would be absolutely amazing. I would pay money just to see that thing! I have a real deep personal love for huon pine as my grandmothers house was made and furnished with it...
thankyou, fellas. Having a lot of fun with wet plate lately. Experimenting with framing, I mocked up one floating in a huon pine box frame.. what do you think?...
