  1. Poll: Re: Would you be interested in a full-size ultralight dark cloth (under 1lb)?

A flying car is good at neither and this suggestion might be similar, but what the heck. Any way to reasonably make it work as a changing tent as well?

    Poll: Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

    Ben,

You asked me for my experience and I obliged. These were not tightly regulated markets. Van's Aircraft makes kits for the experimental market. Bend Research is on the leading edge of...

    Poll: Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

    Bethe,

Many of the Pfizer projects were designed and built (welding and machining) nearly exclusively by me.

We had 2 other engineers, 2 draftsmen, and 2 prototype builders at Van's Aircraft...

    Poll: Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

It doesn't seem that inconsistent to me. This is a project that should have taken 6 months to a year (if things went wrong). The fact that it has taken 2 and a half years makes it seem like a loss to...

Van's aircraft. RV -7, RV -8, and RV-9. Lead engineer.

Several $250K+ pharmaceutical projects in a roundabout way for Pfizer. (Bend Research)

    Poll: Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

    Drew,

That would be a silly move on my part. Wait 2-1/2 years and then sell my place? I still have high hopes that the camera is worth the wait.

Listen, it is my guess that they did not work...

    Poll: Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

At one time you obviously had my support. $189 worth of support.

My support was yours to lose and you did. Endless delays, broken promises, and lackadaisical communication will make this seem...

    Poll: Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

Same here. Two cameras, lowish backer #, and no notice.

Given the history of this project, we might have to wait another 2-3 months for them to get around to sending ours. "We are busy sourcing...

    Re: Howtek Question: Auto-Focus?

Sandy, I think you use silverfast I use dpl so things might be different for us. With dpl on my 4500 the autofocus occurs on the same spot of the drum and might miss the spot where the film is...

Re: DPL users/owners of Howtek/Aztek scanners

    Armando,

I wouldn't trust the autofocus. With DPL the scanner always seems to focus on a specific drum area, this is not necessarily where you have mounted film. Not sure if this is a machine...

Re: DPL users/owners of Howtek/Aztek scanners

    Rich and Armando,

You guys are obviously more studied on this than I am, but there is something about the lens conversation I don't understand.

Why does LCA matter? Since the scanner is only...

Re: DPL users/owners of Howtek/Aztek scanners

Noise is no longer an issue.

Here are some of the scans:

Tiff log at 6 microns endpoints adjusted with DPL Pro and some curve applied in DPL to make it closer to reality and give the profile...

Re: DPL users/owners of Howtek/Aztek scanners

    Hi,

I had initially thought my problem was the increased output of the PMT was not allowing a black point that worked well with film. After changing the gain and seeing an almost identical...
  14. Re: Request electrical design help with hot-rodding a Howtek.

So, I switched out the R53 resistors to 3.3k Ohms.

I had also decided to try just removing the c2 capacitors. "Filters? We don't need no stinking filters." The test scans I've done look great so I...
  15. Re: Request electrical design help with hot-rodding a Howtek.

    Polyglot and Wombat,

Thanks so much for your help. This was a little past my meager understanding.

One of the main points of this exercise is to learn more about electricity. Thanks for...
  16. Request electrical design help with hot-rodding a Howtek.

I have been modifying my Howtek 4500 and have run into a spot where my lack of attention in Electrical Fundamentals class has caught up with me.

The main change I have made is to use some more...
