    Re: inexpensive contact printing

    ???
    Come again?

P.S. Original poster, yes, you can use just a peice of glass on top of your negs and the paper.

I wish I had a nice printing frame, or even a crap printing frame, but I've...

    Re: Enlargement of negatives

Before you run out and give your money to someone else, have you tried duping your own negatives?

Why not slide your negs into your enlarge, at your sharpest aperture, and enlarge onto some 8x10...

    Re: Jim's SECRET WEAPON Lens!

Well. I think I learned something tonight.

Jim Galli was out making photographs(at least in my mind), that I don't like, while I was critiquing the photographs I don't like, instead of trying out...

    Re: Jim's SECRET WEAPON Lens!

Ok, my liberal use of fecal adjectives is less than ideal.

I'll not go back and change them as they might detract from the continuity of this thread.

Now, and in future, I'll endeavor to use...

    Re: Jim's SECRET WEAPON Lens!

    Cow crap.

You can look at blurry, out of focus images, with half an old lens, and call it fine art if you want.

I'll call it like I see it. I think Jim Galli is making crappy pictures with this...

    Re: Jim's SECRET WEAPON Lens!

Hi, I enjoyed much of your website, kudos.

I didn't like the blurry shots you linked to, with your "secret weapon" lens. In fact, I think they really suck, and I would hazard a guess that they may...
  9. Re: Telephoto lens for large format camera.

Alrighty, I've decided to put this on the back burner for awhile, but I've discovered an astronomy club in my area.

When I regain interest, I think I might attend a few meetings, hobnob awhile,...
  10. Telephoto lens for large format camera.

Hey there, do they make telephoto lenses for large format cameras?

I'm wondering, because I've been thinking about doing astrophotography, where grain is a major issue because of the long exposure...

Re: Is there any real utility to ULF?

    Is ULF worth it?

Wait till I get ahold of one, then I'll tell you.

I dream of staggering large prints, with crystal clear clarity. (I'll have to homebuild an enlarger).

    I know I'll probably...

    Re: rangefinder on 4x5 view

It's a nice idea, but instead of adding another doo-dad that would probably cost in the hundreds of dollars....

You could just pick up an actual crown graphic for about a 100 bucks, and use the...
  13. Re: Good, cheap tripod for crown graphic!

Down the STREET! JESUS! I don't know about where you guys are from, but up here you get in trouble for shooting in the city streets!

    LOL!

But seriously though, recoil is always the same, always...
  14. Re: Advice request: Starting my own 4x5 processing

DUDE!, There are commercial labs which process LF FILM!!! IN COLOUR!!!

    DUDE! I hate you!

    Re: Film storage question.

It would be a great deal, if it was much cheaper than new, and IF it was really frozen since manufacture.

But the people who sell used film...are sometimes not so honest.

    Know what I...

Re: Is this lens OK? (Weird aberration)

looks like something has seeped between the lens elements from the outside edges. Like say....cleaning fluid too liberally applied?

There's a copy of it in "HD's graphics treasure chest" as a online bittorrent.

Beware though, it's a compilation, and most of that is related to using photoshop, so you might spend awhile...

That's definitely an option, however, my chair is a lighweight "sports" model, and does not have any place I can think of to place tripod attatchement points.

    It doesn't have armrests,...
  22. Good, cheap tripod for crown graphic!

Well, you guys were so much help in choosing my lens, I now need advice for a tripod.

  23. Re: Cost of sheet film & quantity per box thereof

I don't know about you guys, but I am a student, and a hobbyist, and a dollar a sheet isn't trivial.

    I'm shooting 4x5, but I got a 250 sheet box of arista.edu 100 for about 60 bucks with shipping...
  24. Re: Kodak 203mm Ektar f/7.7 with No.2 supermatic shutter?

Ok, so, let's see if I'm up to speed......what I'm looking at then, is a 1947 lens,(from camerosity date code) in a 1942 shutter (from etched in date on rear) without flash sync?

  27. Re: Good, sharp, cheapish portrait lens, for 4x5 crown graphic

Oh, and yes, I will someday make myself up a proper field camera, probably from a kit.
  28. Re: Good, sharp, cheapish portrait lens, for 4x5 crown graphic

Yes, sadly. Although I've not gotten used to that luxury yet, so I might not miss it. My rangefinder is in pieces in a plastic baggie, the previous owner left it in. The 50/50 transmittance mirror is...
  29. Re: Good, sharp, cheapish portrait lens, for 4x5 crown graphic

Thanks Tim, BTW, I'm looking for a lens so sharp that I'll need a box of bandaid's to make enlargements. Sharpness is the reason I switched formats.
  30. Good, sharp, cheapish portrait lens, for 4x5 crown graphic

So, I've got my crown graphic, and find the lens is not as nice I'd like. I'd really like to take advantage of the format, and do pictures of people.

I particularly like taking black and white...

Just ask for the manifest and walk down to the Customs house...
