For anybody in the UK reading this Tween 20 is readily available from Amazon. Just type in Polysorbate Tween and there it is. I've just ordered some.
Pete.
Thanks jnantz, what type of wax, candle or bees wax. Would wax polish be an idea?
Pete.
Hi Ironage, thanks for that. I hot mount my cyanotypes onto white mounting board usually but as the colour of any mounting board would show through the rice paper I would like any other ideas. If I...
I'm going to try and produce some cyanotypes on rice paper. I have no idea why, I just want to try it.
I have two questions.
1/. If you do this do you size the rice paper? If so what with?
2/. How...
I mix D-76H. It's easy relatively cheap and it's never let me down. Water stop bath and a neutral or alkali fixer. I use Foma films and I've found through experience that it's best to stay away from...
I'm in the UK but Flutots are brilliant. Quick service, reasonably priced and nice people to deal with.
I might get jumped on but have you considered Foma. I like it but I haven't bought any for a few years now. It used to be shipped from Norway and that's non EU. Always got great service and...
You do realise that this is taking place in the UK? There are requests to stream the event.
Pete.
I use the mount to mask my finished prints. With my Solution "A" I dissolve 25g of Ammonium Ferric Citrate (sometimes called Ammonium Iron (III) Citrate) in 70cc of denoised water and as this...
Custom Bellows made Sinars bellows for the company in the first place. Great service and nice blokes.
Pete.
They're a really nice company to deal with. Luckily I can get there by car with no problems.
Pete.
I agree with Andrew as well. Limited movements and vastly over engineered. The MPP press version is even worse. Wista 45 DX are nice cameras. I always liked my B&J 5x7, a lot of people slag them off...
I've seen Ians work, he does a fantastic job. He's over here in the UK.
Pete.
Ali Randolph made a nice tribute song and video to Popcorn Sutton.
I'll second Newton & Ellis. Had a few jobs done by them some years ago including a Sinar/Copal shutter.
Custom Bellows in Birmingham England are fantastic people to deal with. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Pete.
Best wishes to you both Carol.
Pete
Dare I suggest that you could look for a Sinar/Copal shutter. Don't buy one without the cable though.
Pete.
Carol at Flutots has never let me down!
Thanks for your answers, and yes it is one of the "battleship grey" models. I think that it's great and as my other options are the Ansco and a Sinar Norma it's relatively light.
In just over a week I'm off to a local narrow gauge railway where they are holding a WW2 re-enactment weekend. If the weather is OK I will be taking a 5x7camera. I have two 5x7's that I would...
I've sent lenses to Carol at Flutots in the past, why not post shutters to the US for repair? I'm in the UK, never had a problem with Flutots, stop being insular the EU isn't everything!
Pete
My De Vere 54A has a HALF plate film holder (not whole plate) and half plate film occasionally turns up as do half plate film holders. I doubt that a whole plate holder would fit the enlarger.
Pete.
Another plug for Custom Bellows, great people to deal with.
Pete.
Newton and Ellis in Liverpool UK are good.
Pete.
Leigh, I might have misunderstood you but springs do degrade with use. Many, many years ago I was trained as a clock maker and if springs don't degrade with use why do / did suppliers to the trade...
The advice about storing shutters uncocked and set to T (preferably) or on B if T is not an option was posted on this site several years ago by Carol from Flutots, if you don't want to take Carols...
Welcome to the Forum. Used to live in Romford and the county is really photogenic. Love the Midlands though.
Pete.
The worlds best bellows makers and great people to deal with.
Many thanks to you all. It was jinfinance that I was looking for. I've bought a few bits from them in the past (including a Sinar fit lens board, and the quality and service were superb.
Thanks...
I've lost the contact details of the company in China who sell generic Sinar lens boards. Can anybody help please?
Pete.
Crap like this is why we have opted to leave the EEC.
Pete.
Hi Mark, I'll have a pint of whatever you're drinking ;-))
Welcome, Karl.
MPP's own brand 4x5 film holders are not that hard to find in the UK and these are the non standard register as far as I can remember. As you haven't said what country you're in this might not be...
Antique shops are worth checking out in the UK, but don't raise your hopes too much. There is a breed of idiot dealers in this country who will try to up the price when they hear your accent. In my...
Yes you can use magic lantern lenses on LF cameras but be careful. Just because it looks to be a big lens does not always mean that it will cover 4x5 let alone 5x7. I have a largish ML lens that...
Thanks for your answers. Mine is coated. These lenses have a very "domed" front element and as those of us who are using them in the field are not using them as the makers intended I wondered if this...
