Yes, I actually have built the brodie-tyrell f-stop timer. Its fantastic as an enlarger timer and a great build. It even has facility for density measurement (which I haven't implemented).

I'd be very interested in this - in fact I had already thought about it and have most fo the parts assembled. My eldest is pretty good with arduino so I had planned on getting him to write the...

This is an utterly amazing image. If I ever got one image like that I would sit content forever after.
Ah I guessed that stonenyc - but someone somewhere will probably call foul. so many rules on so many fora!!!
Ok - I've reported my own post asking a mod to delete.

This is one I did some time back. Its a contact print from a 5x4 neg. It took me quite a while to get a decent salt print result. I found that even application of the gelatin solution, fuming over...
I took this one in a beech forest in Co. Westmeath, Ireland. It was shot on 5x4 but the arrangement was made for a letterbox crop. I've been tempted many times to get a roll film back, but then snap...
Thanks Dennis for the kind words. I think I prefer the cropped version too.....

Oh my!!! I didn't meant to kick off such a discussion!!! Maybe it serves a purpose though.
Here's the funny thing!! I had intended coming on here this evening to have a look at the comments - but...

I'm afraid I'm an all too infrequent poster here, but hoping maybe to redress that a little.

1. Check your loupe is focussed correctly for your eyesight (if it has diopter adjustment) - check using newsprint or the etch marks on the ground glass. You really always need to check the focus on...
It depends on the mask. If I use the tauneg then I can see right out to the edges (although thats form memory). Using the metal masks the very edges are covered, but ts only a tiny crop.
I'd say...
Funny that - I have the smaller brother, the L1000 and there are no issues with 4x5 on it?
Transformers can hum (vibrate too) a little even with no load. Can you remove the lamp and check on the pins for continuity with a DMM to see if the filament is gone? That will 99% tell you the...

RE the v750 scanning - if its the same as the v500 there is a calibration area near the top centre of the glass that must be kept clear or the scanner won't image. If you have a look at your holders...
Well, the neg is black = exposure + development
Either the film is fogged before it ever got to the camera, or else it was exposed in camera. If enough light reaches the film, it will just go...
Darkslide pulled before the shutter preview was closed?
Looking good, its really quite the buzz when you get your first negs out.
The light flare in the middle 2 pics almost look symmetrical - I'd hazard a guess that both are caused by the same thing,...
Hi JB7,
I left the outlet pipe near the bottom for 2 reasons:
1. Makes it easy to empty the tank through the siphon
2. I had read around stuff about chemicals concentrating at the bottom,...
It will be very hard to get a tack sharp shot at f4.7 and 1sec - especially with a live model. Shoot a few test shots at shorter shutter speeds and increasing f stops to see the performance of the...
I thought I'd share a short video of a diy print washer I made based on the versalab system.

Thanks - its just some bent wire. It suits my methods very well as I do a good bit of split grade printing and being able to quickly swap the filters is great.

I don't know if its any good to you, but here is how I set up the filters for my 1000:

Its an adjustable mask which helps cut down stray light when you are using the tauneg negative carrier for smaller film sizes.... you'll still need the easel as per normal....
No heat absorbing glass on mine....
I would think you should be fine with 60 and 100W bulbs....
Good luck on the hunt for the negative masks - you can also keep an eye out for the tauneg carrier....

Howdy,
If I see one anywhere I'll let you know, but I haven't seen one anywhere before. I only have 1 that I swap 2 lenses in and out of, and then the 150mm lens has its own board. Could you get...
Oh yeah, the other thing, I made a little holder for the contrast filter our of wire that sits on the post under the stage near the lens - so the filter sits under the lens. Works perfectly and you...
For a full set of condensers: 180-1, 180-2, 160-1, 130-1 and 90. Then the lenses, plus lens boards, 50mm, 80mm, 150 should be enough. The lens boards are called lapla and can be unmarked sometimes:

Very good enlarger, but make sure you get every single one of those bits with it. Try and make sure you get all the negative masks, lenses, lensboards, condenser lenses, bulbs, filter drawers etc etc...
I shot my first 4 negs of the shanghai film - pinholes on 2 out of the 4. The other 2 negs were aok though, and printed fine.
