I wish I had started shooting 4x5 in 1993 so I could've used more Polaroid type 55. I loved the the positive, never cared for printing.
Should've painted more. Should've shot more nudes....
I cope with our 102 F heat and 80 degree dewpoint by surfing Craigslist for camera gear and staring forlornly at my tripod.
I think you'd be just fine with a generic plate (one without a little flange to stop rotation). When I had a Widelux 7, I never used it vertically anyway.
The Boss Hoss. :)
I suggest trying Kroil on a test piece before you use it on the lens you like. I've used Kroil on rusty bolts, but never tried to remove it afterwards, as I threw the bolts away. I don't know what...
I liked the Lumbar version of the Aeron, and make sure you order the version that has the lock-off tilt function. Sounds like Denney's office bought the basic Aeron without lock-off. You will flop...
The Aeron is probably the best. HM's soft pad aluminum group chairs are very comfy as well, but I've only sat in them at DWR. But maybe try not sitting. Stand instead. I know I started getting fat...
Little Snitch is one of the best apps ever. As a bonus, you also find out how many times adobe apps "phone home" to their remote server.
I like this. :)
I have an 802 for a daily bag. It's great. One thing most people don't realize is that they make accessory pouches. I've added a pouche to one side; they've got 3 or so sizes. Really adds that extra...
Count me in for liking your shot as well, Axon. I think if you crop out the business on the left it is even better.
One of a very few portraits of a dog I like. Well done Zaitz! That dog looks English, like it should be sporting a Handlebar mustache.
National camera, the one in Golden Valley.
Hahaha! But don't keep it in the car, have your porters hoof it for you. And make sure this time they hold it for you when you drink from a straw.
Look at 5:06 in the vid, guys (did you guys even watch the thing?). He went to Lowes to buy some contractor floods for the full-length shots. He's also using the MODELING lights on his strobes. Any...
I've got but one tactic: Never leave a camera in a car.
Just a quick update, as I've gotten some email questions. I recently sold my Stormcase 2500, as a chemical smell of the padded insert (not the case) was bugging me. I thought it'd go away, but it...
Queue polish joke...
I use a facemask + scuba tank filled with nitrous oxide. Lower the dark cloth, giggle and tune out. Best photo session you will ever have.
:-)
People seem to use 3-wheel baby strollers to carry their gear. I don't because I don't get that far from the car with my stuff.
If you get a CF tripod with the legs that slide in like a gitzo, you're going to have to clean the grit outta that thing by disassembling it. A wood tripod is easy to clean.
I agree with the previous post...the weight of your gear pretty much negates worrying about tripod weight. People have suggested using a 3-wheeled baby stroller, the big spoked wheel kind, for moving...
I posted a thread on photo.net (link) in 2005 on this very subject, and we came to the conclusion that he was "taking the lens off its mount very slightly and moving it either up/down/left/right to...
What I am seeing from my perch as an art director in the marketing/ad world is that huge billions-of-dollars companies will only buy royalty-free images. Not good. Been this way for a couple years.

Vaughn and Matt, you witty bastards :-)
I too think the leather bag idea will work the best. And it'll keep the dirt from the spikes from spoiling the leather in the Rolls!
So, something like...
Hey, found these screw protectors after a bit of a search...
Hahahahahahahahah! Touche!
(My handheld doesn't have an accent mark for the "e")
I've got a recently made Ries, and I like the spike feet. Love the tripod. But, I don't like scratching my car, poking myself (or others). Switching out the legs to the rubber feet each time I...
The latches on the Storm 2500 are what sold it for me. Way, way easier. Think Tank Photo has a backpack sized for the 2500 and 1510.
i vote for the glossy. It's more of a pearl-ish finish when compared to the ultra-gloss of some pc laptops I've seen. I have a 15" mb pro, and I love the 'grainless' screen. You'll see smudges...
An update: I bought a Storm Case im2500. I chose it mainly because of price (~$150). It looks very tough. The think tank airport security would be nicer, and I'm sure the Rimowa would be spectacular....
Ok, since my first post, I've been flip-flopping over hard-case vs semi-hard cases, etc. I think I've narrowed it down to the Think Tank Airport International or Security. They (I think) will be...
Thanks for all the great replies! This, as always, is a nice community to be in.
I'm favoring a Storm Case for value on the $, but on the advice of Mr. Petronio and Mr. Vener, I am considering a...
Doesn't the urethane foam wear out, just as an o-ring would?
Bob, how exactly does the tropicana seal? Do you know where to buy them? HP Marketing used to carry them, but doesn't anymore, right? And how much do they cost? I have tried to find them online but...
