Most, if not all, scanners' and standalone "inversion software" use adaptive methods that interpret colors depending on image content.
If you want to know how an over and underexposure affect the...

It is possible to print.
"How it is going to look printed?" is another question
If you have a color profile for your printer and that medium - give it a try.
If you don't - how would you create a...
With NewColor the default aperture is a function of Scale (resolution) and nothing else.
Feel free to experiment because only you can tell what looks optimal \ best to you in a particular scan.
I would keep it (the aperture slider in NewColor) as-is at its default middle point.
At the...
As much as I enjoy taking pictures with LF cameras and appreciate what the format offers, for a trip like that (assuming that I was seriously interested in bringing back at least some decent...
Internal electronics of DTS Screen 1030AI support 10-bit per channel processing. Compression to 8-bit per channel is done in the Computer(MAC or PC) Scanners software and only when the scanned and...
Speaking of pro-mist filters there are 2 flavors from Tiffen: Pro-mist , Black Pro-mist and also each may be combined with a Warming coating.
Black Pro-mist is intended to preserve the darkness of...
I had the same or very similar issue when developing film in the 2509N with or without the "paddles".
Usage of an Expert Drum solves all the issues and makes the outcome as perfect as it gets each...

My experience is very similar to Alan9940's
I develop all my B&W (regardless of emulsion) in HC-110 for 10-12 mins at 68F, constant rotation in a JOBO tank. 1:100 and having at least 1 ml of...
Worth keeping in mind that the space on a hard drive or a flash drive is allocated in units (blocks) of a certain size ( 1K, 4K, etc). It means that even for a file size of 1 byte there will be...
JPEG might be an ok format for storing or transferring of a final version of the image. Not so much for editing as each time a change to the pixels is made and saved the content gets re-compressed...
It depends what you are looking for
If to spend more money - sure :)
If to improve certain qualities in scanned images - then it depends, and only you will be able to answer the question. Send your...
The discussion in this thread almost convinced me to try a word\sentence generator (would you call it an AI ?) to write poetry. I have no ability or talent otherwise...

With a flatbed for optimal results one has to always mask the scanned frame around the edges.
He is already running out of coverage ( movements). Moving the camera position forward would make the distortion even more pronounced. To preserve the correct perspective the camera would need to be...
What others said : scan the film as you see it - in positive mode and do the conversions by yourself in PS or other editors.
How do you go about different individuals or groups perceiving\interpreting the same information in different manners(based on their education , background, beliefs, IQ , etc) ? Aren't each of us...
Try to honestly answer to yourself why you take\make pictures (the true purpose and objective)
And then why you should care about what others are doing in image making areas (AI, digital and such)
In my experience of making color photographs by exposing 3 frames of B&W film on a scene - that is mostly true. "Mostly" because it is hard at times to get each of the 3 in a complete stillness (in...
Once I took a couple of photos of ocean cliffs and many-many seagulls taking off and landing onto those cliffs in a close proximity to my camera during dawn. Shutter speed measured in many seconds....

Get a roll of Rollei IR 400 in 120 and try it in either of your MF cameras. You will need a Hoya R72 filter on your lens for the IR effect (~5 stops filter factor). Start with ISO 6 and bracket +\- 2...
I like the image , Ben. By looking at the image and before reading through the story I could not help but wonder "how lucky you were to capture the old truck by the diner".
If the diner is no longer...
The sky reflection on either of the fenders could have become an image on its own
Hello Will,
The updated version looks like a different image where the eye stays on the main subject and tends to explore its perceived qualities by slowly moving back and forth for many times!...
To me it is neither death nor birth but rather an awkward pose, that nevertheless makes an interesting image.
There is also an awkward transition from light to dark and vice versa around the edges...
The major disappointment may come not from an incorrect metering (I would not worry about that at all if I used Portra or Ektar), but from the use of polarizer and relatively long exposure times....
Drew,
I shot a lot of images with a Chamonix. That thing does not allow much of movements with a 90mm lens. I have yet to see my imagens failing due to excessive light falloff with that lens...
The 90mm F4.5 SW covers 5x7.
On 4x5 the light fall off at any practical for landscape aperture is almost undetectable.
I have never used a CF with it and never will even if someone gives it away...
A syringe solves that problem .
AI generated images, paintings, drawings , prints of all kinds and photographs, either printed or displayed by other means, are all images of something but each produced using a specific method. In...
I would go for an Eversmart instead of an IQSmart. Any Eversmart from ProII and higher. Eversmarts have been designed and built by Scitex and have a superior optical system (lens in particular).
Speed of image acquisition should not be viewed as a notable advantage of one method over another. Especially in archival applications.
It is assumed that in order to acquire an image the source...

It is implied that there a space for the Darkroom available.
It is also implied that none of the digital equipment is already acquired.
The reality for many could be quite the opposite.
