Hi there! Just got the notification about a PM regarding this ooold thread here...
Well, the trip has not happened... yet ;-) Shortly after my last posts in 2014, my girlfriend (now wife) got...
I also let film warm up to room temperature, although not 12hrs - more like 2-3, since I store it at roughly 6°C.
I always wipe my Photoflex tent with a moist-to-wet cloth, creating a humid...
I'm totally happy with XTOL - easy to mix (I buy a 5l tank of distillated water and mix it right in the tank), long shelf life when stored in completely filled 1l bottles, use it 1:1 ( a friend...
Indeed!
Here is one of my latest attempts:

Shot on T-Max 100 in XTOL (N, rated at box speed) with a Master Technika 3000 /...
Indeed, and proud of it! :-)
Thanks guys! Steven, your hint really makes me question our choice...maybe we should consider another time of the year.
John, we also got blood sausage over here. I know what I have to avoid :-D
Thank you, AlfaKen. I think we will be able to visit about 5 locations, otherwise the time for each one might be too short. So we will have to choose amongst all your suggestions :-) Perhaps we have...
Thanks Tobias - "Lake District" has been a name without meaning to me for a long time. Heard about it in the 6th grade or so (English class)...always pronounced it Lake DISTRICT. I thought that was...
Bruce, that sounds great!!! Exactly what I was looking for... I already had some concerns about the distances from Cornwall to the North, sicne I'd prefer to travel not on the Motorway (but rather on...
Hello fellow LF shooters,
me and my girlfriedn are about to plan a two-week trip to UK (will start in August/September). Of course I want to bring my 5x4 along :-) We will travel by car.
Since I...
Thanks Drew, someone had to say it.
Guys, thank you for these scientific approach and suggestions! I might really try the compass method. Currently I only own a Suunto MC-2 Global, the accuracy is surely not as good. But it also...
I'd also consider sheet film and a drum scanner...4x5 should do it, 5x7 or 8x10 would be even better.
Quite affordable (the hassle with lighting is the same for all), and you can have an exprienced...
Do you mean the two metal pieces which secure the GG? I thought that Toyo uses the same concept?
I think it is a question of convenience. If the OP means rear rise, it definitely makes sense.
The TK has rear focussing, by the way.
Kirk, it is considerably lighter than my MT 3000. The MT is more compact, the TK is thinner but a lot higher due to the monorail construction.
I carry everything* except the tripod in my LowePro ProTrekker 400AW. It's big, heavy, but extraordinary well protected and has even a better strap system than my technical mountaineering backpacks....
Maybe you should also consider some snowshoes for your tripod, like the Manfrotto 230 set. These even make sense for 4x5 in muddy areas.
Noah exactly describes how I feel about the combination of a MT and a TK. It is true that the direct movements (fall is great!) allow an extremely fast and reliable setup of the TK. I do prefer the...
I would like to add that folding a TK isn't a hassle. It's done in less than 10 seconds if the bellows are removed (costs another 5 seconds), including setting all movements to zero.
+2 - The Technikardan 45S folds compact, is rigid and lightweight. The movements are fantastic - except shift and rise/fall everything comes with zero detents.
I prefer the folding of my MT 3000 (it...
Almost 33, shooting LF since 2 years - started photography 20 years ago with a Minolta XD5 (borrowed from my father), then got my first camera on Christmas 1994 (Minolta X300s, still have it).
Exactly what I do. Works totally fine.
Thanks Stone! This really helps me a lot. I did some research here and found some old threads about it, but your opinion is extremely appreciated.
I need a sturdy, comfortable head for my new Linhof...
Hey Stone, see you use the Manfrotto 229 head with the Toyo!
I need a new head, and this one seems to be quite affordable. My only concerns: How much do you have to tighten the handles, so that the...
Hi William, I think it could be replaced quite easily - would not use leather though, but some kind of stiff fabric, like felt.
One of mine is also a bit worn out, I might try this and will post...
Perfect!
Hi guys,
just wanted to give you an update: I now followed the general advise to align the camera that everything looks ok on the GG (and didn't worry too much if everything was exactly...
+1
Give VueScan a try, it is quite affordable and by far the best and most consistent scanning software on the market.
Andre, you might also contact Mr. Greiner: www.greiner-photo.com
He is an outstanding LF specialist and always has some new and used cameras, lenses and so on in stock.
OK. Remember me to tell it when we meet - it's best when you can show it (like pantomime) :-)
Wow. This is a big thing.
Hi Andy, it definitely sounds thrilling! Although I am not keen on meeting the Wallonian police, I would be tempted to try the old joke "hoe laat is het?" with them. Maybe you know it? I got it from...
Hi Andy,
sounds great! In fact I will visit Liege this Sunday wiht some friends. I guess the Hasard Cheratte could be the old coal mine or something like that? A frined of mine lives close to the...
I did some promotion in my invite-only forum, hope that helps :-)
That's true Leigh - I recently made this experience, since I set up my first darkroom (worked hybrid before).
There are many different ways to start LF.
Anyway, about 100 sheet film holders for...
Hi Andy, check out www.keyling.com - I am not happy with the layout. Anyway, it shows my abilities (especially the lack of).
I am very much active in the bigger area - reaching from the Ruhr area...
Thanks Robert! ic-racer also mentioned that method which is suprisingly easy (and extremely precise).
Hi Andy, West Germany - close to Duesseldorf/Cologne :-)
Simple - either bring a changing tent (expensive version of a changing bag, but far more convenient. Or, shoot less.
The latter is what I prefer. I usually shoot 6-8 sheets per day trip. That...
