Dear LFers,
I am trying to wrap my head around a LF film > drum scan > C-print workflow that makes sense (to my small brain). Maybe you can explain this to me?

Thanks Arne :)
Sure, if a client was looking over my shoulder and paying me what the people I used to assist used to make (3-6K a day) I would make those chromes sparkle on the light table.
I know it can be...
Kids,
I'm a classically trained photog. Assisted a lot of the greats back in the day. Used to scramble on ladders to tape strips of CC Magenta around flouro tubes and replace incandescent bulbs...
Ah!
Another brilliant example of
(a) Linhof engineering
(b) Bob's courtesy, and
(c) Uri's dimwittedness...
Thanks Bob.
Thanks a lot Bob!
I don't have the camera in front of me so I had trouble visualising it :) That's very helpful about the third tripod socket. Much appreciated.
Any thoughts on the 90 deg...
Hi people,
I use a 90mm and a 65mm (haven't actually burned any film on the 65 yet) on the MT2000. The only movement I want is lens (front) fall.
With the 90mm, I have it on the upper track and...
Thank you Jon!
Totally flush under the surface and I tried scraping every which way. I will find the tool from a friend or buy one.
Haha! It was either a Gitzo reporter tripod, or a Gitzo horizontal extension rod. Either way, I was happy and thanks! It's shameful of me not to at least inform the sender of the items arrival, let...
Thank you Tim! I know just the man.
Did I buy something from you recently? I owe a few thank you received in good condition emails....
I knew this was a stupid thing to do, but it worked for 5 years and I actually forgot it was on there: used a brass 1/4 - 3/8 converter to mount a tripod plate on the 'Dorff and upon removal it...
Thanks Sevo!
Anyway, it seems to defeat the purpose of shooting (or at least scanning) 8x10.
I see. Thanks for the explanantion. I still say 30K should buy a lot of stepping :)
And isn't the main factor simply time?I'm happy for the X5 to take half an hour to scan my 4x5 at 8000dpi - how is it more expensive?
Point taken, but an X5 is 30K. That's pretty expensive!
And why should the v750 deliberately switch to a shitty lens for 8x10?? The CCD and transport system are the same - why switch the lens? If...
For example, the Hasselblad X5 scans 35mm negs at (true, non-interpolated) resolution of 8000dpi, but 4x5 negs at 2040dpi

Thanks Michael: that's definitely the right stuff! I'll be doing this again and will get veltex for sure.
Thanks for the link!
Thanks everybody for your ideas!
I decided to buy a "plush microfibre blanket" off eBay and cut to size. I don't need it to grab velcro: It's for a shipping crate for a crystal sculpture I made....
Lads & Ladies,
You know that soft fluffy microfibre type stuff lowepro and lightware etc line their cases with? I want to buy it by the yard. Anyone know what it's called and/or where i can get...
Thanks for all the replies (Andrew thanks for the offer! I just ordered some last night before I saw your post)
Looks like i'll give it a go.
Thanks Tim for the scan!! Wit all the trouble of...
Try living in Australia. Take the B&H price on ANYTHING and just double it. :(
Thanks Marc,
The 100 blows the s*it out of the highlights, (which can be used nicely for flattering portraits if you use it in open shade and expose at 160ASA, which I do. I fear the 3000 is just...
Only asking cos I'm about to do a big order to Australia. If it's OK I'll take a bunch.
Now that I am down to my last few packs of my beloved FP-100BW, the only option is the 3000 speed.
What are the prints like? Any grain? I presume the only reason it's still produced is for...
polyglot: thanks mate, I'll check those out.
otto: thanks for your feedback and i take your point, but the ball vs pan-tilt vs 3-way debate takes up about half the server space on this forum....
Hi all,
I have a Really Right Stuff ballhead and bought their "Large Format" plate for it. Well, let's just say that if it comes with a 1/4" thread and requires an adaptor it's not "really...
Right you are.
I did say if you get good results with sRGB - more power to you, but I do stand by the claim that there is an incoherence between buying the finest monitors and calibration and...
True, true, true .... in my 15 years shooting commercially, here is my experience:
Export file on 6-year old uncalibrated iMac to high-street lab:
Me: Hm. Looks a little darker and more...
Hi Bryan!
Why, oh WHY did I open my big keyboard??!? I really don't want to start an argument or a flame war, so let me say that if it works for you and you are happy with your prints - GREAT!...
No offense to you personally Brent, but I am speechless (almost) about this article. Who would agree with this statement: "Always export your images in SRGB if you intend to ... print them in an...

Jason: Thanks! That's exactly the one I was referring to!
Jac: Can you post a photo of your one please? Do you sell them?
Haha! Don't hold your breath. when I say "I think I'll..." that means sometime in the next couple years :D
Thanks for the photos Leigh :)
Thanks fellows.
I once saw a clear perspex (plastic) one that seemed to be just U-shaped and slotted into the film holder space, but it was a tiny photo online, so I couldn't see the details. As...
Yes, well.. full time LF assistant is a job description that went out with full time scrimshaw artist assistant :)
I feel lucky to have had the chance at the time.
If you do, would you please take a couple snaps of it for me and post them here?? One in place on the camera and one just of the thing itself?
I'd like to try and make one.
Thank you!
Thanks Ari! Think I'll give it a go.
