Completely agree, had nothing but positive experiences with Robert White. So let me guess: Fuji GX 680, Fuji 617, Fuji GSW 6x9 and Arca Swiss or Ebony 4x5? Which do you like best?

Just to toss in another idea: I used an Arca 6x9 a few years back and liked it very much, it's a gem!!! This camera has the 6x9 standard of the "field" you are looking at, but a 6x9 rollfilm back...
Very small grain, alright, but not very sharp. Too mushy for my taste, so I am not using it anymore.
I did fairly extensive testing last Summer, using 120 film (Ilford Delta 100 and 400) developed either in XTOL 1:1 or PMK. (I took 2 exposures of each scene, one for XTOL the other for PMK...
Since you are shooting polaroid and are in an experimenting mood, how about using multiple pops to fill-in the shadows? You already got a picture with correct exposure (and ugly shadows) using a...
Here is another good description how to do it without densitometer:

I ordered 3 times from R. White, there was duty on one package, two came without. The two packages that "slipped through" were ordered early during the week and arrived 2 days later (yes, you will...
I second Chris' advice - don't mount it at all. The only prints I dry mount are fiber based black and whites. The rest gets hinged and matted. Comes out much flatter and even too!
Just look for Kodak's friendly "photogenic spot" signs and plant your tripod nearby. Just kidding ;-)
Pete's answer made me think: the image circle of LF lenses is so much larger compared to MF and small format lenses, even when taking negative size into account. Where does all this extra light go...
Herr Meincke, I believe your experience is very unusual. Sounds to me like you got a "lemon" for one reason or another. Arca Swiss has a reputation of producing extremely fine and precise cameras....
Interesting info - thanks Arnim (by the way, the proper tranlation of the German word "Objektiv" is "lens"). The question is, whether our aesthetic vision is limited by the grain of our current...
Hi Chris, I also used to have problems with evenness and now use JOBO 2000 series drums. Of course they are meant to be used with the JOBO processor but you can use them also by themselves. They...
I also bought an Arca Swiss 6x9 last year and it was in perfect condition. Everything I had expected from it! If I had received a "new" binocular finder that is dirty, stained and scratched, it ...
I remember a couple of years ago when the japanese yen had fallen from about 100 to 150 per dollar - there was not the slightest change in price in any of the products sold in the US. I was very...
Without trying to sound cynical, but I'd say Fatali has received lots of free publicity here! I will have to inspect the burn marks myself before making any judgement on the matter...
Same here - never used hardener, never had a problem. Like Gene, I also dry my prints face up to avoid screen impressions on the print surface!
What brownish cast??? I have used XTOL with TMAX, Delta 100 to 3200 films and PanF and never got a brownish cast. Film base is as clear as it gets. I process all film in a Jobo rotary processor,...
Bill, I have been using the 5L packages XTOL and never had a problem with it, never encoutered the "ghost negatives" described in many threads. Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe it is the 5L...
If you buy the 5x7, I suspect your next question will be "New tool, need vision"....LOL. whenever I feel in a creative slump, I go the opposite way - take out a cheap point&shoot camera and fire...
As a native German speaker I wish to add my two cents: In German, the word "theoretic" does not mean "based on a theory" but it has a very strong connotation of "not achievable in the real world"....
I am a native German speaker and am afraid the statement quoted by Bob does not make any sense to me either - it certainly does not address the question as to whether the published curves are...
Julio, I somewhat rushly assumed you were talking about backlit subjects, but perhaps you had landscapes (i.e. wide open spaces) in mind, where the sun just happens to come in from a steep angle in...
Hi Jean - I apologize, I should have read more carefully. The difference between sun light and open shade is typically 3 f-stops, therefore measuring the light source (sun) and then opening about 1...
With my somewhat limited experience using an ARCA 6x9 monorail camera, I'd be very surprised if a field camera would speed things up. For once, you can always leave the lens on, no need to remove...
For sunset/sunrises/clouds or sky-in-general, I point my incident meter with flat diffuser disk towards the sun/clouds/sky-in-general and close by 3 f-stops! I have no idea why my compensation is...
Come on - this is a bizarre discussion. For all I know, the fire stain was accidental. Fatali didn't intend to harm the arch! How about the climbers who drill holes into the face of El Capitan - ...
Thanks Dominique, this "lamp-post test" works very well. I underestimated a bit the importance to get everything leveled in a horizontal plane, but once I did, I got some great shots.
The roll...
I wish to take a series of panorama photographs using 6x9 camera and 110 Schneid er lens. 8 exposures will cover approximately 360 degress.
I know that "I need to rotate the camera around an axis...
Congratulations to your camera. I use the Rodenstock 55 mm, the Schneider 110 XL and the Rodenstock 180 Apo. All three are superb lenses.
The fewer steps the better - this eliminates #1 and leaves us with the eternal debate, "which is better, slide film or print film?". Unless your taste craves ultra high contrast and colors without...
Just like Glenn, I am using the Rodenstock 55 on a flat lens board with the Arca 6x9 Universal bellows. Excellent lens - can't give it enough praise. The flat board is sufficient in my opinion...
It's an endless debate "I tried Reala and did not like the prints I got" - then the problem is not the film, it's the printing! Reala printed by an expert on Fuji Crystal Archive paper looks...
What's the big deal? I printed some with and some without, depending on what looked better for the particualr picture!?
1. What gamma (approximately) corresponds to N, N-1 and N+1 development? How muc h would the gamma change for condensor head versus cold-light head?
2. Is "expose for the shadows and develop for...
Hi Glenn, could you please elaborate how to do this optical check? I bought my own Arca 6x9 in part because of your advice and am extremely satisfied with this camera! Thanks!
I use this lens with my Arca 6x9 and am very satisfied!!! Have no other 110 mm lens to compare it too, but I don't think you will be disappointed.
Pitfalls: Buying in US instead overseas and...
Could you please elaborate on your answer a bit - what makes it different: better shadow details, less muddy highlights, or what...
And where can I find the "Cookbook"? - Thanks!!!
I did some film testing the other weekend and found that Delta 100 (in roll film ) developed in XTOL has almost the same density curve as what Adams published fo r TriX developed in HC110. Has anyone...
Just to reinforce what Glenn said: In your situation (calculating exposure compensation where RECIPROCITY FAILURE is an issue), opening the lens 2 stops is NOT (!!!) the same as increasing exposure...
