What about...
FWIW, I own (fcl 8x10), one and really like it...had other 8x10's...just depends on your style of shooting...I think it is one of the better ones out there for sure. Each has its pros and cons, but i...
A 'second' on the larger Ries head screwed directly into the bottom of the camera...you can glue/stick some felt pads on the tripod head to protect the bottom of the camera. the larger Ries head...
Tim, I also used 4 x 5 for the canyon shots. Just bring some plastic baggies for your lenses and film. not that big of a deal. In addition, Jackson can assist with exposure recommendations, metering,...
JACKSON BRIDGES - PERIOD...hire him to guide you around to fantastic places...most off the beaten path around Page and he will take you to unique canyons as well...better than antelope imo and not as...
I use 5x7 trays for 4x5 and constant shuffle, from bottom to top. Get a tray with raised grooves on the bottom so you can get your fingers underneath the film in order to shuffle. Get a kodak like...
FCL 810 is a nice tool for me. I use a lot of movements and bellows extension too. It is lightweight and stable...not quite as nice as my phillips :) ...i do have chamonix film holders for my 7x17...
Several, very talented large format photographers who happen to be women, can be found in our large format group - www.imageworks.org
Thanks! Btw, I would use trays for developing instead of the jobo. Safelights and trays are available on ebay. With trays you can see what's going on during the printing/developing process.
I use an Arca Swiss Discovery case....I get my shen hao 8x10, 5 holders lens and cloth...I use a simple cloth bag to carry extra holders if necessary. Don't know if you could find one...or something...
Oh, another suggestion....in order to save on expense of paper....I cut down larger sizes of paper to smaller test print sheets. when you become more experienced at exposure with smaller test prints,...
I will also recommend Lodima paper for silver processing. Light source is simple too. See my other post on light sources as a simple bulb will work...I don't use fancy glass either. cheap window...
Yes, a simple flood bulb r 60 or r 120 in a simple aluminum flood hood. Not sure you even need the cheap aluminum hood. All told < $5 in a hardware store....hang 3-5 feet from frame /easel. I use an...
I would tray develop by inspection, which I do in a small laundry room. I can process up to 8 sheets at a time...with a little practice. You need a sink for sure. I have a jobo too, but prefer the...
Have you tried teh super trekker? It works well with my phillips...but not sure of Ritter dimensions. I do carry mine around on a tripod for quite a bit of my work. Otherwise, I use a wagon, like a...
Congratulations! What a terrific honor. Good luck with the interview.
I would definitely give it a try. Nice film in pyrocat MC. The EFKE 100 and 25 are different films. Both nice for different SBR situations.
good grief...I wonder what my phillips 7 x 17 is worth? :). Oh well, I guess I will keep my shen hao 8 x 10 FCL 810A for 8 x 10 for awhile...
Well you are comparing panoramic with a different format at 11 x 14...so perhaps the 8 x 10 and a panoramic? I really like having both as some things I think are better in 8 x10 vs. 7 x 17....and...
7x17? It's pretty nice :)
I have had great luck with EFKE 7x17 and 8x10 and like the look for certain SBR and lighting situations. I shoot a lot and the cost does add up so I am somewhat sensitive to price. I have also shot...
Money - yes, a living....no...must keep day job :(.
It may very well be contamination. This happened to me and they were VERY thin. If you pour A into a beaker then into the larger mixing beaker, then B into the smaller beaker, but overfill and pour...
I like the 7x17 format...tonality of a contact print and the opportunity to 'paint' the large ground glass. There is also a 'tactile' feel and look of a contact print that I don't see from...
Very nice photograph! I enjoy photographing many walls...see website and BandW magazine - this June issue for Spotlight.
hmm, sorry you are becoming less enamored with the format...I really like it...but it can be 'wieldly' in some situations....
Best be would be to purchase less expensive 7x17 film (efke maybe?)...
Well, if you ever get to the southwest, phoenix, Arizona area, feel free to look me up for 7x17...the prints are better, much better in person than on the web, but you can get somewhat of an idea.
Really nice work. Good luck with your publishing. I really like the effects and moods you have created with your prints. Excellent.
Great shots. thanks for the notice. It's nice that this is getting some press!
The Shen Hao FCL 810 A is nice for movements and weight...price isn't too bad either. Badger Graphic carries them. Wehman's are very nice as well for field work.
I would venture to say that the class is well beyond the basics. Many who have taken the class have ultimately moved on to produce some pretty nice work, such as Imageworks.org - a group of large...
I would seriously consider Rod's large format class at SCC. You will learn a lot from that class. As for purchasing gear....Photomark is good, but you can find great deals on ebay and classifieds,...
I prefer pan tilt for 8x10 on up. For 4 x 5 I can get away with the arca ball head.
I prefer trays with grooves and the smaller the tray to the negative the easier to avoid negs 'floating' around and possible corners scratching the negs. So, I would go 5 x 7 for 4 x 5 negs. presoak...
I prefer one that is very tight around the camera such as the BTZS - not a loose blanket type. I find it lighter and much easier to use. I would start there?
Hmm, have not had a problem with soft tap water and pyro. I use the pyro MC. I use a lot of it, so I order the larger bottles from Photographers Formulary. Towards the end of the bottle, the A...
Very nice exhibit Mike! Congratulations! I also like the enlargments of the barn, well done. Scott
I would recommend the arca. Great in the field too. Once the arca is set up it is a joy to use in the field. you may want to consider a less expensive arca and add features as you go.
Wow, I completely disagree. Seeing the actual print is the full meaning...
I have seen reproductions and been unimpressed only to be very impressed upon seeing the actual print.
Have you seen...
I have the larger ries head for my tripod which works well for my 7x17. It is heavy, but i am even comfortable with verticals. I also would strongly recommend a NON ball head tripod for the larger...
