To mix chemicals in glycol it really needs to be heated, so I used a hotplate underneath my drill press with a paint stirrer. Worked pretty good and didn't have to stir for half an hour.

Ken,
"Thanks for that. I intend to do the same and plot the results. I think it's very helpful to know.
If we profile a scanner, does it automatically work in a linear fashion ?
if so,...
Ken,
I have a Epson scanner and a test awhile back on Stouffer 4x5 step tablet (transparent). That density range is really pushing past the limits of the design of the scanner but I was suprised...
I had the same problem with Vuescan when scanning neg pages that covered the full area. Had to use Epson for that purpose, otherwise I use Vuescan.
Ruined shot (Cable release stuck) of Adobe ruins, my eyes are pretty much ruined too.
Ken,
I know you do mostly BW. I was not happy with my 2400 and ABW. I am much happier using bw inks although I am limited to matte papers with the current mix I use. Also, a CIS system will save a...
I've used the Red River cards and they work fine. I have heard of some who like the Strathmore Artist cards with the deckled edges, I have not tried them yet but they look nice in the online photos.
I have a 1800 for color. It's touchy and tends to band.
I have a 2400 for BW. I use a CIS. Ink carts will eat your dollar reserve. Watching 10mils of ink pump out each time you change a cartridge...
Stuck locking cable release.
I have one on my 6x17 with 90/f8 Nikkor. It works fine and no noticible resolution drop. I have stacked an orange filter underneath and it did not vignet. Stacked filters will not work on my 6x12...
On an Epson 4990 I consistently had problems on scanning 6x17cm pano, 4x5,5x7. The film would pop during the scan yielding out of focus areas. I made a cardboard mask the thickness of the optimum...
I saw the exhibit today! Marvelous! I guess I should just throw my cameras away and never shoot again.
Problem is, I can't stand myself if I don't try for the image. Wife thinks I'm crazy when I...
Driving time?????? one of the most elusive questions in the universe:-) It takes me anywhere from 1.5hr to 4hr, when I make the travel once a week.
I'm going to see the exibit tomorrow. I'm...
I tried the ABW printing on the Epson 2400 and really couldn't stand it. You can look under a loupe and see alot of cyan and magenta inks and can watch the cartridges drop as you print. QTR would...
I've heard the Cone inksets are great. My choice for me is mixing my own dilutions from Eboni Black ink.
If fixing and washing doesn't correct it! If the stain is yellow or green, contact with a filter over the light source or scan RGB and select appropiate color to counteract the stain. Sort of like...
My vista laptop goes back to factory color settings every time I boot it. Xrite has a download app that allows you to pick profiles and click on it to go back to last monitor calibration.
Keith,
I know when a filter is used behind a camera lens a correction of about 1/3 the glass thickness is needed. Maybe the plex is acting the same way.
On my 4990 I did tests: on the glass,...
I work on an Oil Platform 10 miles off LA. We would be happy. We have a nice big heliopad with plenty of sky.
I have tested my 4990 with a Stouffer 3.0D transmission step tablet. It can get the full range although there is a roll off above 2.8, still able to produce linear with a correction curve.
I have tried the Arista II Natural which I found very nice for warm images. I haven't tried the Bright White version.
I bought one of those plastic 6x12 ones wanting something light. The film plane was at least .0020" out and had light leaks. Not my best purchase! I did buy the Gaoersi cameras also and they function...
I had problems shooting straight down from a helicopter with a speed graphic. The film bowed out from the vibration, the center was out of focus but edeges of frame were sharp. Shooting out to the...
I ran a test using a Nikon D200 to shoot a 6x17cm neg in 5 sections (camera turned vertical). Density range on tmx in pcathd was easily covered, overall all image quality surpassed my epson 4990 at...
If 4 at a time on a flatbed is not fast enough for you! Put them on a light table and shoot them with a digital camera, it would be good enough for contacts.
>>>I'm about to buy my first printer! I currently scan my black and white negs -
Are you strictly going to print BW? It does make a difference in your choice.
I have a 2400 set up for BW with...
[QUOTE=timbo10ca;424652]1) What is the maximum real dpi for scanning
>I have a Epson 4990 which is simular. About max 1500-1800dpi.
2) what is its true OD? (specs say 4.0 but I don't know if...
I scan 4 at a time on Epson 4990 for contact use at 600dpi.
A much simpler approach. Find a 20x24 print processing drum. Slide the 8x20 in film in, add enough developer to cover the film, stand the drum on end for stand developing.
Harbor Freight has the bulbs in the Air Compressor and Fittings area.
Are you sure you have 3/4" npt?
1/2" npt measures 0.840" in diameter.
3/4" npt measures 1.050" in diameter.
You can use a bushing if you need.
Steve
This is an industrial supply house in the US. They have a web site and I have ordered numerous items from them. Online catalog PN 3946K11, 3"dial, 2.5" stem, you pick temperature range.
...
You should have an industrial supply source there. We use them in the oil industry and they are available in a wide range of temperature scales.
Drew and those in SF,
I saw the exhibit last weekend at the Getty. I of course loved all his images, but was blown away by the Panos of San Francisco. A moment frozen in time, wagon tracks in the...
You're complaining about a free resource.
Fred picker talked about this years ago also, it does give the feeling of glowing highlights and full detail in the forrest. I have had difficulty pulling it off without bluring though.
Foxtail pines in Sierra's. 6x12cm pano
I have the Gaoersi G612 and the G617. They are fine cameras and hold the film flat. The viewfinders aren't great and I will probably get a Fotoman finder later, it would be helpful to have a bubble...
Thanks Barry. I have some black gaffers tape I picked up at a camera store, it doesn't seem to stick all that well although I haven't tried it on the film flaps yet. I have a bunch of 5x7 holders to...
Anyone found a tape good for repairing flaps?
Mine have small pinholes in the tape hinge although I don't believe light it is hitting the film.
Do you remove the old tape or tape over old? It...
