Hi Frank,

Chacabuco, thanks for posting that! It just so happens that I made that WordPress theme, and I'm a LF forum member, too! I have to chime in and say that WordPress is definitely one of the easiest...
Don, thanks for that information. That's a good trick to have up my sleeve and I will keep it in mind.
I did check that everything was adjusted well on the lensboard, I feel pretty certain...
Engl - it looks like you got a great example of this lens. I'm envious!
Drew - there are no visible problems with the lens, it looks flawless. Everything is on the lensboard tight and appears...
No filters, no shade. I don't usually use them, especially not on overcast days like these. Unfortunately my GG does not have clipped corners so I can't use that particular trick.
This lens is...
Thanks, all, for the answers. I have done most of my LF work with a lightweight, tack-sharp Nikkor 150mm W which seems to have unlimited rise & fall. I guess I am spoiled and was looking for...
This was taken at f/22, I believe. The lens seems quite good when centered, the problem comes into play when there's any rise or fall involved.
Hi Dan,
I'm talking about the upper corners. They are noticeably bluish, darker, and soft. This seems to be consistent across all of the photos where I've used any rise at all.
Sometimes a search can help. I just rediscovered this thread I started previously when I was considering the purchase of the Fuji. The Nikkor 120mm SW seems to be highly regarded in this focal range...
I've been looking for a slightly wide angle lens for my 4x5 and I picked up a Fujinon 125mm W lens over the summer. It is multicoated and has the lettering on the outside of the barrel, which I...
I'm not sure how many people here shoot Kodak Portra 400, but Kodak made a big announcement today:
...
Every lens I've ever bought from KEH came with a retaining ring.
Kirk - the feeling you are describing is to me one of the crucial aspects of great art. The best work stands up to many repeated viewings and gives up a little bit more information every time you...
Fuji also recently discontinued the 4x5 Pro 160S in 50 packs. It is now only available in 10 packs, which makes the film about 20% more expensive than it used to be.
I switched to Kodak.
I second LTI - best lab in NYC without a doubt!
Moab Entrada is a beautiful paper, I've been using it for several years now. The natural has a nice bone white color with no OABs and is perfect for a warm-toned B&W print. The bright white does have...
I'm a Vuescan Pro user but the software is only worth it if you're willing to play around with it a bit and learn the ins and outs. It can be quite "fiddly". The Epson software is probably fine for...
The largest useful scan I have ever gotten from a 4990 or V700 is about half that resolution. Scanning any more than that is a waste of disk space and time because you've far exceeded the optical...
Thanks for everyone who chimed in on this thread. John Clark sent me a spreadsheet with a list of specs for most modern lenses which really helped me answer my question. The Future Classics page on...
Sanjay, thanks. That is a big lens! That definitely would not work for me.
Kirk, I have seen that page before but reading over it again I am getting some ideas. The APO Symmar and the Fujinon...
I just came across a reference to the Fujinon 125mm CM-W, which is also supposed to be reasonably light. Unfortunately I don't see that one for sale anywhere either.
Gem, I've heard good things about the Nikkor (and my other two lenses are Nikkor), but isn't that lens quite big? I spend a lot of time on my feet, I am hoping to find something a bit more backpack...
I've been shooting 4x5 for about two years, mostly with a 150mm lens and occasionally a 210. I primarily shoot landscapes, in color.
I have been looking to add a wider lens to my kit, so I just...
Everyone who says that their 410 has play in the gears needs to take note of this. I found my 410 to be a little bit wobbly from time to time as well. One day I discovered that tightening up the...
Frank: I should have added that it's just the wheels and axle from the stroller, so it does not add as much bulk to the pack as one would think. Fortunately it still works as a backpack even with the...
I thought I would share my new creation, a rolling backpack I've dubbed the Mastodon. It's an unholy marriage between an internal frame backpack and a jogging stroller. I've only taken it out a...
Thanks. Good to know that the 400NC isn't much different than the 160NC, grain-wise. I scan on a flatbed too. Too bad it's more expensive though, and only available in 10 sheet boxes. I'll start with...
I don't know if many people here use Fuji Pro 160s in 4x5 sheets, but I noticed that they recently stopped selling this film in 50 sheet boxes. It is still available in 10 sheet boxes, with the net...
Since this thread still seems to get a fair amount of traffic, (noted in the referral logs on my website) I thought I would post a follow-up on my use of ColorNeg. I have been shooting color film for...
I have not been able to find any information on getting a linear scan from Epson software. I don't think it's possible... Epson always manipulates the image as far as I can tell. There is more...
Tim,
I'm using ColorNeg on Mac. The author even made a custom version for me with a large image window because I have a very big screen. I have tried it with 10.4 and 10.5. It works perfectly with...
Thanks, Tim, for posting that. I do prefer the colors in your version, it makes mine look quite dull. I am going to experiment a bit with your workflow the next time I scan color film and see if I...
Hi Tim,
That's my photo with the cattails. I will say a few things in defense of the images posted:
I am not a color photographer by trade, I work in black and white mostly and some of the...
