Hi folks!
The Sinar Norma CLA Video Guide is now free: http://www.philipmorgan.net/sinar-cla-video-guide/
Read about why it's free now here:...
Thanks for that information, Nicholas!
True, and I can't really tell from the data sheets I'm seeing whether the less expensive solenoid valves offer variable flow rates or just a simple on/off. I imagine a good used Hass Intellifaucet...
Could Arduino be used to make a DIY temperature-controlled faucet similar in function to the Hass Intellifaucet?
A description of the lightweight, compact Linhof shade I adapted to my Norma can be found here: http://www.philipmorgan.net/2010/04/05/a-new-compendium-for-my-sinar-norma/
It's a bit of work, but...
I've heard the camera was named after the designer's daughter.
If you're going to lubricate something like your Sinar Pan-Tilt head, clean the area with spray electronics cleaner or acetone and use the smallest possible amount of molybdenum disulfide grease....

It's a Sinar Norma, modified with custom compendium shade and in-camera flocking to reduce camera flare.

Ah... I'm guessing here, but I imagine that means the existing grease in the camera probably dried up, especially if it's been a while since the camera was lubed, or if it was lubed with the wrong...
Stephane, what do you think was causing the stiffness in the first place? Was it exposure to salt water, sand, or something else?
This is an interesting discussion, and coincides strangely with a dream I had early this morning, in which I used the correct grease on a Norma I have been working on, but the grease performed...
I bet it could! :)
Thanks for those thoughts! It seems like the evidence against using a drum to develop 20x24 FB paper is mounting...
--Philip.
That's very helpful information, Robert. Thank you!
Thanks for the replies so far.
I actually try to develop all my B&W paper to completion using a compensating development timer, so I don't avail myself of development by inspection when developing...
I'm interested in getting a used Unicolor drum (and motor base) to develop 20x24 fiber-base paper. It seems that this combination would actually cost less than four good quality 20x24 trays.
My...
Here's how I made a tray ladder for little money: http://www.philipmorgan.net/2009/01/16/diy-16x20-tray-ladder/
It wasn't perfect, but it was easy to make and cheap!
It appears that Manuel Alvarez Bravo was a fan of this tripod too!

Thanks Richard! I do love my Norma and Twin Shank tripod.
Cheers,
--Philip.
Thanks Vaughn. I carry the tripod cradled in my arms in front of me because my huge camera case goes on shoulders traps behind me (and my shoulders are whimpering under the load as it is), so I don't...
Rigidity is decreased, while ability to set up the tripod on uneven terrain, and set it up much lower to the ground is increased. The only situation where I feel like this tradeoff is not entirely...
I thought it might be fun to sing the praises of this seemingly little-known tripod.
The Linhof Twin Shank tripod is, for me, an excellent companion to my Sinar Norma 4x5 camera. It has a very...
I have this same enlarger, but haven't had the problems you described. I did unintentionally strip the teeth on the elevation motor gear, so I can tell you from experience that alignment of the motor...
Ha! Looks like one, doesn't it. It's just a latex tubing headstrap, to keep the binocular viewer firmly on my face when in use.
I've heard Angry Birds is highly addictive. I'm trying to stay clear...
I'll show my "bag", even though I'm afraid it'll get laughed at for being strange! <grin>
Inside the case:
Sinar Norma 4x5 with custom compendium shade (a Linhof shade adapted to fit the...

My Sinar Norma set up to photograph still life. The softbox to the right of the camera is a homemade unit with two Interfit 150w...
Even B+W provides filter factors that, in my experience, are wildly unrealistic (erring on the side of underexposure) for orange and red filters. Testing can take very little time, and provide much...
I've actually tested my Cokin filters with FP4+. Here are my results: http://www.philipmorgan.net/2008/11/12/filter-factors-for-cokin-filters-with-fp4/
Just a quick update to let folks know that the DVD version is now available. Again, the link is: http://www.philipmorgan.net/purchase-sinar-norma-cla-guide-video-companion/
Another easy DIY approach is to glue multiple 5x7 trays into a larger tray. You put the chemicals and the film to be developed into the 5x7 trays, and you agitate the larger tray (which of course...
Thanks for letting me know about that issue Will. What browser are you using?
I've updated the site so that the sample chapter works better with Firefox and Internet Explorer. It's really...
I’ve just put the finishing touches on the Sinar Norma CLA Video Guide, and it’s now available for purchase. The video guide contains two-camera High Definition footage of how-to and why-to...
Your observation is correct. I patterned my design on a smaller Kostiner vacuum easel, which uses the same design where a small percentage of the paper's surface is exposed directly to the vacuum.

Thanks for all the interesting improvement ideas Harold!
I am interested in seeing if my two-ply easel swells and bows. It may, and if it does I'll report back here. It's about to get rainy in the...
I have used the Jinfinance Sinar --> Technika adapter board and their Technika boards, and I've found them to be a good value, well machined, and just perfect for my needs.
I got the perforated metal at OnlineMetals.com. Here's the exact item I used: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=13526&step=4&id=1004&top_cat=849
I had the folks at OnlineMetals do the...
Thanks for those thoughts John.
