If the lever moves freely with no detents, the brass shaft that the lever is attached to could have snapped. The current parts manual from KHB doesn't show it. Used heads can be found pretty cheaply...

I long ago read somewhere that the popularity of 4x5 stemmed from a contact print in landscape being two newspaper columns wide.
Point well taken, Drew. There are still times when I regret not having stuck with 8x10 long enough to have gotten comfortable with it and there are still a few shots I would love to spend eighty...
I had shot 4x5 for decades and had always deeply lusted for 8x10. Eventually, I gave into the urge and acquired a Calumet C-1 (the lighter magnesium version for which one pays a premium and is only...
It will be shipped in a baggie and bubble wrapped but without the notation "w/ caps" it will be capless. The first place to look for caps is KEH so you won't have to pay an additional shipping...
It can be "re-geared" for RA-4. The change involves replacing the cogged pullies and belt. I have some links somewhere. I'll see if I can dig them up.
Perhaps I phrased my question badly. I am asking about using a 120mm lens on 4x5.
Anyone using a 115 Grandagon?
I am starting to think about LF again and am really leaning toward a 120ish on 4x5. I enjoy my 58 (Koni) in 6x7 and when I was shooting 8x10 the 250 was my favorite. Am I missing something here? I...
My first real enlarger was an ancient, well-used D-II. With the original Chromega (Rosie the Robot, from The Jetsons) head you could clean your fingernails during exposure and the column...
WRT the filter threads, a $5.00 step up ring with an ID just larger than the OD of the front of the lens barrel will do the trick. Get a bag of assorted rubber bands from the drug store. You will...
I'm from the southeastern United (yeah, right) States, so I always assume my pronunciation is in error. For the record, when I asked Jim at Midwest Photo about a SIGH-mar S he didn't bat an eye but...
Rebel Saint Augustine
When I had my C-1 (green monster) I used it with a J-100 Ries. The J is for junior. Never even had to think about it. 'nuff said...
Would anyone happen to know if Ron Wisner ever acually produced his 4x5 SLR?
Under very cold conditions, reciprocity failure is lessened. Ask our bretherin the astrophotographers (if you can still find any using film).
I used a good bit of Type 79. As stated earlier, it was finicky but when it worked it really shined.
And radio waves travel at the speed of light (or thereabouts).
That won't work, however the SLR as meter should do okay.
Hardware store.
Well it certainly wasn't low weight. I own a C-1 (magnesium, thank God). OTOH it's very intuitive to use, has plenty of bellows and, to my own warped aestethic, cute. The deal-maker, however, was...
Just wait until you try Amidol.
In terms of measuring long exposures I've found an electronic metronome (cheap) to be the best solution.
Oh, and FP4+ at EI 50.
I have begun using stand development in a Unicolor drum (8x10) with Pyrocat-HD for it's compensation effects. The dilutions and techniques are straight from Sandy's article on unblinking eye. So far...
Do avoid the tiltalls like the plague.
Why not a small spirit level?
I don't know if Radio Shack still has them (they seem to have gotten, uh.....shackier of late) but a WWV radio reciever sounds just like what you are looking for. Clicks every second, a skipped beat...
As an aside, I have begun carrying an electronic metronome to improve my accuracy on multi-second exposures.
And drinks?
Not wishing to interfere with the p****** contest here, but I am curious. Why do folks avoid Kodak's indicator stop? It's the only thing available off the shelf here and there's a finite amount of...
Reciprocity failure data (including filtration) is included in the data sheet for each particular filmstock.
I just re-blackened Margret's (the magnesium C-1) bellows using Rit liquid dye. It worked well undiluted and applied with a foam brush.
On a CC-400 like yours the only solution is the recessed board and it will only work with a Copal-0 or smaller shutter. You'll also need one of those little cable release extenders with a super...
I use an electronic metronome with great success. The price is right, too.
Aside from not working all that well, they also require gobs of chemestry.
When I was shooting 4x5 it was with Velvia and a polarizer (shudder). Now that I'm shooting 8x10 black and white y'all tell me there was a fortune in it?
Alas, I haven't been posting as much lately because I'm neck-deep into learning how to combine FP-4+, Pyrocat HD, Azo and Amidol to create something I'm not embarrassed by.
Two sheets of 1/4" plate glass for 8x10". Perhaps overkill, perhaps not.
I love Amtrak. Two words: club car.
