i saw an article online (http://www.clarkvision.com/articles/film.vs.digital.1/index.html) providing a mathmatical formula for determining that the resolution of 4x5 velvia equals or exceeds that of...
hi, has anyone found any resources (web or print) regarding workflow for making inkjet prints from digital scans of 4x5 transparency and negative films?
thanks.
those 3900s are huge!
i don't have a problem with it, but it is interesting how this thread seems to be evolving into a discussion on the cost/availability of technology as well as perceived ideals regarding resolution...
burtynksy mainly has been shooting quickloads since 1998. i think given the particular circumstances under which he shoots 8x10 wouldn't really work.
what do you mean by "the prints don't hold...
if sensor real estate is only what matters for you, you might try one of the newer betterlight scanning backs which work well for "still" subject matter. maybe you have? i agree it would be nice to...
please, don't be snooty. no one is blaming tools. and the comment "these kinds of debates won't do much, except maybe make the participants look silly" is the only silly post i've read so far on this...
its about efficiency, period.
daniel, why do you prefer film for your own work?
haven't seen much about this online since the luminous landscape review by charles cramer (former sheet film artist) several years ago between drum scanned 4x5 velvia and 39megapixel digital back.
...
i'm used, extensively i might add, the howtek 4500 and 7500 models (though never cezanne) and think these epson scanners are finally coming around (when adequate sharpening is applied of course). ...
a friend of a friend made a 35x45 inch print from 8x10 film using the 750...he also paid $125 for a 1gb drum scan from the lab and we couldn't tell the difference.
anyone else noticing how good...
I have two APO Symmar lenses that need a bit of cleaning on the glass. Any suggestions for products or methods I can use to clean without scratching?
If you could give a pointer to a cleaning...
I recently bought my second copy of the Fuji A 360 and will test this week against the Sironar S and APO Symmar L. My older Fuji A 360 is not sharp in the corners compared to the Symmar S. ...
Hi Oren,
You guessed it, I use extreme movements...
I'm going to test an Apo Symmar and Sironar S this week.

This topic has probably been covered at some point in the past (if so, please provide a pointer).
I am considering either the 360mm Rodenstock Sironar S or Schneider APO Symmar (even an older...
Any updated thoughts on this topic?
I can't decide between the 240mm Sironar S vs APO Symmar. An overall smooth look is slightly more important to me than contrast or sharpness.
How come there is no 8x10 Misura in the new catalogue? I only see the 4x5.
Are you sure this isn't the F compact?
Will this 8x10 arca swiss work with the z1 ballhead?

What do you mean, not a common lens like the 210?
Thanks
How much is a used one worth in decent condition?
Thank you Steve.
A friend offered to sell me the following lenses for my 8x10, but doesn't know how much they are worth.
Please advise fair market value for each. They are all in very good condition.
Thanks!...
The benefits of thick emulsion films are well known in most b&w circles. Adams swore by it. Wehman may say something about it on his site...more flexible development. I am surprised that not many...
Do LF color films exist that have thicker emulsion layers than others? I want a film that appears to have the most texture/volume.
Seems like they don't emulsions like they used to...am I nuts?
...
I borrowed a friend's 5x7, but don't have any film.
What are some online stores where I can find color portra (or like) 5x7?
THX
Yes, I know many also who are getting great results from new Inkjet printers. Superb!
QT, how large are you printing?
Regarding the OP's questions/requirements, 8x10 may yield creamier results at long exposures. 360mm lens is good.
Many fine artists today are using MF digital backs on their LF equipment to...
Thanks everyone, very helpful!
I came across a relatively new Canham 8x10 wooden view camera with a Schneider APO-Symmar 240mm lens. How much used $ should this stuff be worth?
I'd be interested to see a list of the top 5 latest models, from any manufacturer. I'm thinking best all-around cameras, mono rail or whatever...
Drew,
What enlarger/glass do you use for your large prints?
Thanks.

I need a new 8x10 and am considering the Chamonix. Has anyone used the late model with carbon fiber?
http://www.chamonixviewcamera.com/810.html
Has this camera been reviewed online anywhere? ...
Drew,
What is this 5x7 "three shot" camera you speak of? I can't find one online.
Thanks.

Hello All:
Are there any technical or aesthetic advantages to using 8x10 film instead of MFDB for big prints? I shoot primarily forrest scenes using a great lens (Fine Art XXL 550) on my 8x10. ...
