Thanks folks. So here's my next question: do you think it makes adifference, as far as exposures go, if tempered glass u tempered glass is used, does it make a difference to the us transmission...
I refurbished a Nuarc NL22-8C that has a safety glass placed over the light source. Apparently this piece of tempered glass had some sort of pattern etched on it that diffused the hotspots....
Thank you, much appreciated!
Thank you Steveo, I'm trying to check things out online but the travelogue authors are not LF photogrphers so they're not looking for the same things I'd be interested in. I'm trying to find a route...
Can anyone suggest the most scenic route for a coast-to-coast walk across Scotland? I'd be interested in the opinions of people who did the routes. I was considering hauling an 8x10 and camping along...
SO, how about "Lend/Borrow" forum next to the Buy/Sell forum? Let the parties then decide their own deposit etc arrangements. Maybe Bill Burk would find someone willing to lend him a Protar that way...
The risk of shipping damage can be managed with insurance. Surely in this day and age when people are shipping things all over, this cannot be the biggest hurdle?
In any case if people start out...
Well it is always easy to come up with reasons why something won't work, the point is to think of ways of making things DO work.
Many years ago we LF members got together -- virtually -- and...
For example I would trust a pretty expensive lens to Galli, not much deposit required. There are several other members whom I would trust a bit less or more.
People who want to start building trust relations so they can later borrow lend lenses worth 1500
It's suposed to be fun, guys, remember? You can play around with a lens no big deal, doesn't...
Well, seems to me that in any sort of arrangement, you'd be free to pick and choose whom you trust and with what.
I'm sure if we all look around, we can find a lens or two that is sorta "extra"...
Photographic or artistic co ops are not new, no reason why a co op could not operate virtually. I suppose there's not enough demand for lenses though to justify such efforts, yet.
Here is an interesting project and question: How much are you willing to trust another human being, dollar-wise, to give them something and expect it to be returned safely, based on no collateral or...
How do libraries do it?
Or, people could trust each other.
*sigh* maybe
Seriously, there are reputation management methods. We could start out small, with cheaper lenses. If we want to be...
I've got a couple of interesting ULF lenses that I'm selling for a bunch o money so I've rejected a few offers from people whose work I very much appreciate and would love to contribute to if I...
Wow that's amazing. It has a mildly disconcerting effect, like an alien landscape
is what I mean
Puffing - sales hype- is all it is, no one takes it seriously anyway.
But Certo6, who (used to?) repair folding cameras, did an experiment where he took several photos with a camera that had a...
Unless youre a news or documentary photographer there is ethical issue.
Back in the 1970s there was a huge debate over whether cropping was unethical. That's was in the days of naivete, when we...
The one item I am really glad I got and am using far more than I thought I would, is a Fuji dark box which allows me to load and unload film in the dark, but without turning off any lights.
We do know.
It will.
Prepare your credit card.
Hyperfocal focusing is not exact enough for it to make any real difference if you measure from the lens or the film plane etc
People tend to believe these online calculators with their tenths or hundredths of a decimal place precision a little too much. There is such a thing as false precision.
Hyperfocal distance...

OH I didn't know these details (not following 35mm lens tech too carefully) Nevertheless is seems to indicate there's a goodly demand for old fashioned brass lenses that they've resorted to such...

The fact that there is a market is proven by the outrageous prices for existing wet plate lenses.
I think you shouldn't so cavalierly dismiss the potential market for some wet plate lenses, not...
Hi, any update on this project?
Jesus with the demand for wetplate lenses you'd make a killing manufacturing your own line of brass lenses.
Why not just do that online? Seems like a strange model. Who needs physical galleries especially for purely digital works

I need some some sort of case or tote box to carry many 11x14 matted prints around -- something like a bankers box not too heavy and weather-resistant (so no cardboard boxes) and which does not ding...
Alas now days it would be ho hum.
Interesting that no one mentions the racism of images like the Barbary pirate. "White" women being forcibly taken by "Middle Eastern" types is a consistent theme...
Jesus aligning the Omega 4x5 was a pain. My Durst 1840 has kept perfect alignment, so much so that Im thinking of selling my Versalab.
Indeed, this is a good way to get rid of dust and reduce static charge. But
I think the real source of dust on negatives is not due to loading, but is attributable to the dust inside the bellows....
In my experience, vacuuming only adds to static charge and attracts dust, as do plastic bags. I use an antistatic dust gun to blow out the holders and try to increase the humidity in the air before...
Thank you, indeed I've read this in other places on the web.
