If someone asks were to buy or where to repair X, the location makes it easier to respond.
If someone is having a problem with a piece of equipment and I am close by, I may respond with a suggestion to meet.
You can post your location without loosing privacy.

Yes but that's irrelevant. I don't want to post my information in public. For a reason or set of reasons that may not be obvious to you, but are important to me.
Common courtesy dictates that you show respect for my wishes if you expect me to be extend the same back.
I don't need to post my information in public in order to provide it to those who really need it and I don't feel like satisfying plain curiosity of those who disregard my opinion.
I fail to see why it is such a big deal to cause all this consternation and chatter.
