I forget -- does one get the brown fingernail stain from tray processing negatives with Pyro, or doping prints in Amidol?

From Amidol, for sure.
As I understand it, pyrogallol is readily absorbed into the body through the skin. If you are putting your hands in the developer, your fingers turning brown may well be the least of your problems. I strongly advise you to wear nitrile gloves when working in the soup. Any soup.

Actually I believe both will cause brown fingernals over time, but Amidol will for sure, In Amidol's case, fingernals will turn almost black. Regardless, it's foolish to allow that to happen. Wear gloves and take the necessary precautions if you care about yourself.

Always wear nitril gloves, no matter what chemicals your using in the darkroom. When I mix pyro or amidol I wear nitril gloves, googles, and a respirator with vapor barrier cartridges.
