How do I get the file to display in a larger size, without thumbnail?

If the file is stored somewhere on the internet (e.g., your website or in an ISP network folder) you can write the html image code for that address into your post and the picture will magically appear. Or, select the small yellow icon of the mountains in the formatting menu above the text entry box where you compose your message and the pop-out submenu will ask for the image's internet address and write the code automatically for you inserting the image in the message at the cursor point.

IOW, you don't add an attachment to your post, but rather reference the image storage location on the net.

For this portrait I used Dallmeyer 4B wide open. Exposure was 10 seconds.
