After a quick search, it seems there are few – if any – “Post your sculpture” threads.
Heck, I thought, why not start one and see what happens…
(I’d especially like to see if anyone has captured white marble with fine effect.)
Here are two shots of Alexander Calder’s “Eagle” – which until recently perched here, in front of Seattle’s Asian Art Museum. It has since flown to Olympic Sculpture Park, just north of the city’s downtown district on the edge of Puget Sound. (Anyone have a shot at its new location?)
Calder’s work always menaced me – with its scimitar edges, sharp points, and sanguinary red iron . But it fascinates me too; each different viewpoint brings a protean change . (Perhaps the two photos show this – taken only feet apart!) As the 2nd photo shows, Seattle’s late afternoon sun would throw dramatic shadows onto the museum.
In each case, I tilted-up the camera bed, returned the back to vertical, and added slight front rise:
